Book 5 is still in China!

As everyone knows, Harry Potter #7 comes out in two more days.

And my copy of Bk 5 is still in China. And still unfinished. Bk 6 is on my bookshelf, but I can't read that until I finish 5, and I can't finish 5 because - aside from the physical distance - I can't stand itWhich means when Bk 7 comes out, someone is going to eventually spoil it for ( Read more... )

What, Jack Dawson dies? (is that the one played by Vanderbeek(sp)?) Not that I watch the show, only having 2 channels, but interesting fact. How does that happen? Anyway, I do hope you finish book 5, because it really is good, once you get past the angst!Harry. But really, once you understand where he's coming from, it makes sense. He's still suffering from Cedric's death and not having any contact with anyone to talk to about it, and he does go through a lot< in book 5. Plus, he is a teenager, and I think even Harry Potter is bound to go through "a stage". ;)

I've actually just started re-reading the series now, since I can barely remember anything, seeing as I've only read them all once, and there were big gaps between all the books after 3 for me. So, I figured now's the best time to refresh myself. ;)

So good luck! :)

P.S. What about getting a copy of book 5 from a library -- assuming one is in your area -- or borrowing one from a friend? Or, you could just watch the movie, seeing as that takes only 2 hours, plus you get the ( ... )

? Oh, not Dawson Leery from Dawson's Creek. I meant Jack Dawson from Titanic, remember? ^^;;;

As for Bk 5 - I know I could borrow a copy from the library, but

1.) It's in the children's section, which means
2.) Children - many children - touch it, which means
3.) All kinds of scary, unspeakable remnents of things left on the pages

I could also borrow a copy from a friend, but the truth is, I just can't stand angst!Harry. I've tried. Oh, how I've tried. I tried to take another crack at it when Bk 6 was coming out, but I got to freaking page 8, and already the angst had begun.

My "friends" have already spoiled much of Bk 5 for me, so I know why Harry is suddenly Emo-kid, but I just can't deal with his whining.

And I heard that the movie of #5 was a disappoint; that, and I still haven't gotten around to seeing #4 yet. ^^;;;;;

Basically, I don't want to read the book yet I know I need to read the book and I'm just grumbling about it. ^_~

LOL Aw geez, I'm out of the loop. ;)

Um...wow, ok. Gloves? ;)

*laughs* Wow, you really can't stand it. I honestly don't remember it being so bad -- maybe because I'm just used to whiny teenagers (having been one myself for the last several years) ;). Is that the farthest you've ever gotten in the book? It gets much better, if you can just manage to ignore the whining for the first little bit...

Well, the first time I read Bk 5 was during the summer it came out. That first time, I think I got through, maybe, 160-200 pages. I stopped right around around where Harry had to go to some trial/court meeting and he sees Mr. Weasley there... I think? ^^;;;

Anywho, my immense love for books 1-4 helped propel me that far, but no farther. Angst!Harry was just too much. When I tried again the second time, I only got to page 8.

Then, this past winter, when I went back to China, I brought Bk 5 along with me, thinking that if it was the only thing available in English, then I would have to read it, right?

Wrong. I never touched it during my entire trip, and, in fact, bought so much stuff that I couldn't fit the book in my suitcases and had to leave it behind at my aunt's house. XD

~*laughs* Wow, you really can't stand it. I honestly don't remember it being so bad -- maybe because I'm just used to whiny teenagers (having been one myself for the last several years) ;).Well, I freely admit I had a fair amount of the angsty!teenager phase, ( ... )

Go to the bookstore. PIck up a five. Sit in the chair. Read it.

Oh yeah, though. Someone is going to shout out, "HE'S DEAD!!" on five hundred radio stations six AM Saturday.

But. I. Don't. Want. To. Read. Five.

I want to read 6 and 7, not 5. But I know I have to read 5. *Points above to conversation with naybob*

*Sighs* Yeah, don't I know it.

Well that's what happened when the last chapter of The Old Curiosity Shop was being hefted off the boat from England in NYC. Caused the city's first traffic jam, too.

Lol, I know how you feel. I've only gotten up to book 4 myself but have no desire to read 5, or 6 (is the angsting that bad? ^^;). I'd like to know how everything ties together, but I hate reading things out of order.

Meh, there are far better books out there. *shrugs*

Well, I genuinely love books 1-4, and I believe there's a good reason why the series is so astoundingly popular. Neither, though, do I believe they are the be all end all. I just wish I could finish the series, and I'm sad that book 5 makes such a wish so difficult to fulfill.

You know you're going to read OotP eventually. It's going to happen. Even if I have to lock you in a room and feed you one sheet of nori for every chapter you finish.

And besides, if you really did read an entire series of SEVEN BOOK in their correct order, the universe might implode. Even though the Universe employed a time delay strategy of ten years of spaced releases, the power of Ding-Ding's ability to read every series backwards WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL!

Ahh, no wonder I haven't been able to finish book 5 during all this time! It's because my brain secretly wants me to read book 7 first, then 6, and finally, 5. XD

~Even if I have to lock you in a room and feed you one sheet of nori for every chapter you finish.~

... the sad thing is, that actually might work. XD
