So, my hardware guy, who took my computer and said he'd fix it up since it had to be anything but the mother board, who eventually said I was right and it was the motherboard. Well, he put in a new motherboard, same model (Gigabyte GA-M55SL!-S4), and THAT board also won't start if it's too cool, i.e. first thing in the morning

Don't turn off your computer.

Sage advice and something I tried, but it turned itself off overnight at some point.
Besides, it uses too much power to just leave it running.

Insist on an Asus motherboard.

Board number 3 is in the machine, and if it so much as hiccoughs it's out and a different brand is going in. I will scream the word Asus while waving cash around if that's what it takes.
