Proper LJ "etiquette" is to respond where the comment was made-- there's no risk of it going unnoticed on an unfrequented blog because (as far as I know) Livejournal is by default set up to notify you of replies to your comments via email no matter where they are made. The result is that the conversation continues in a nice thread. No worries though.
If Russia and China have an economic stake in the region one would think they'd be naturally more interested in its stability-- or does one group in power doing whatever the hell it likes pass for stability in their books? It's plausible that it might, I suppose.
Re: Unilateral peacekeeping invasions, (they have worked so well in the past!) it's probably a much better idea to involve the UN. Last I heard there are still celebratory screenings of "Black Hawk Down" in Mogadishu on occasion.
I don't think dour notes are inappropriate given the subject. Thanks for the explanation!
Hm, to get this back on track, may I suggest Kim Carnes' remastered version of "You came" for the trainride? 80s pop has a certain light, upbeat quality to it that makes it easier to get through the day.
