Fandom, again

I love Gonzo. Their stuff allows me to geek out in ways that other studios don't. And wow, reading journals is kinda inspiring.

Okay there's some undercurrent of omgsomysterious!!!1! going on with the aliens, which I can understand, because really the bug eyed grey skinned humanoids are a bit...insulting. It's not like that's a great design. I'm amazed they didn't manage to go extinct from maladaptation before they started going to other planets to abduct random suggestible individuals.

I stray from the point. Anyway, yes, aliens, very hard to contemplate. But err, it's not like they're /that/ alien. In fact, lj commenting with keelieinblack reminds me: Solaris is weirder. Hell, while we're on the topic of weird, tripod fish (Bathypterois grallator) are weird. No one has told me as yet what happens when one of those legs are broken. Does it tilt? What?

ANYWAY. What do we know? Fairy seems to be habitable by people, though the native form of amino acids, as I've gleaned from reading petronia's excellent summaries, are r instead of l. Small matter. The fact remains that there /are/ amino acids. There's oxygen (implying there's an ecosystem), a climate, and the fun thing about evolution is that it applies to alien lifeforms, even if they might be an entire planet.

Add the factor suggested near the last eps, I believe we got ourselves a crude idea of JAM's psychology and motivations.

It's not that I'm particularly impressed with the ability of the human brain to understand alien things, it's just that things that affect the Human Race (even by proxy) with intent are by the same definition fair game for a "theory of mind/s" . Motivations may be a bit murky, but once we have intent there's something to work from.

As for how much understanding is possible...it's like trying to imagine having a tail or wings or ultraviolet or infrared vision or trying to predict another person. You'll never really get there.
