Its not that I don't see things from other peoples perspective, I'm good at that. I'm even pretty good at putting aside my own feelings about the subject and being happy or sad for someone depending on the circumstances

I know what you mean. I've been introspective myself lately.

Let's get one thing straight though: There is NOTHING wrong with being selfish. If people don't like that you're looking out for yourself when you already know in your heart of hearts that you're a giving person, eff them. They are leeches and they can suck dust. Western society's gotten to touchy-feely and has over-vilified selfishness. We might be social, but we were never meant to have a hive-mind.

So feel free to be selfish without guilt if it doesn't cause harm.
