My hand hurts from filling out job applications. It's so difficult to interview and tell a potential employer that you have plans to leave for 3 weeks in a month's time but reassure them that it's sooo worth it to hire me now. Although I'd be willing to cancel the trip (which is to help pack up my grandparents' house...and maybe attend a ( Read more... )

LOL Hot Topic...

As much as that place annoys me, I think working there would be nice. Mall hours, you can wear whatever you want, AND you can listen to awesome music all day? Not bad.

I know, I miss old school goth Hot Topic but if I'm going to work retail I figure it might as well be somewhere fun.

Me too! Back when they had REAL goth & punk stuff and not just emo/scene junk.

I hope you get it. It'll be way better than someplace like JC Penny, hahaha.

Please. I haven't even gotten to that point in the application yet. I'm not dropping it off until tomorrow.

I had already booked a trip home for a friend's wedding when I got my new job. I didn't tell them about it until after they offered me the job. And I signed the contract. At that point I told them that before taking the job I'd made these plans... and did they need me to change them, which I totally would do if they needed me to...

They gave me the time off. Unpaid, but still. They were totally understanding.

It's kind of sneaky, but at that point they've already committed to you. Plus, offering to cancel the trip suggests that you take the job seriously. If you just say you can't work that month or whatever, they might just fire you rather than deal with you.
