Chris goes through this nearly ever year with his company. There's always talk of reorganization of management and a new position would open. Instead that doesn't pan out and they offer him some pseudo-manager position that pays less than his current job. Fortunately his boss is very awesome and looks out for her employees. A friend of ours was in the same position two years ago and their boss pulled enough strings to move him up in the company, took a while though. Had to ship him around between departments to eventually get it.

And this is yet another reason why I have absolutely zero desire to ever work an office type job. I'll take an extra four years of school to not having to claw my way up the corporate ladder.
