Perhaps I should mention...

Remember a while back when I posted pictures of jewelry I'd made?

Well, I've made a lot more; beading turns out to be the perfect activity for when you've got small, unpredictable periods of time to work with and not much brain. And I've finally set up an Etsy store, under the very apt rubric Emily Procrastinates. (Hat-tip to sanj for coming up ( Read more... )

Thank you! I was getting blindingly bored having to come up with sales copy for each item, and my husband suggested I try the J. Peterman approach of just writing a random story to go with each thing. So then it became a lot more fun. (And it made me realize that the copywriters at every other catalogue in the world must have been so jealous of their counterparts at J. Peterman. Really, which would you rather do: spend your day coming up with yet another way of saying "this is a blue sweater, which you should buy," or spend your day writing an improbable and charming anecdote about a movie star and an aviator and their outing in the French countryside? But I digress.)

OMG, honey, I want, like, ALL OF THEM. (Or at least the blues and greens.) (And January.) (Eeeep.)

(I would like to try some of these on, to see where they fall on me. Is possible?)

You can absolutely try stuff on. I'm also happy to make pieces in other sizes, since I sort of default towards that-which-fits-me, and I recognize I'm a tad on the small side. (Just a tad.)

I've done a few more things that haven't made it to Etsy yet. (Somehow, taking photos and uploading them is a prohibitive lot of work.) So if you're really interested, come on over someday.

So much gorgeousness (and so cheap! You could totally get away with asking for more.)

I definitely want something. Hmm. Shinies.

I was thinking the same thing about prices. The peices are lovely, and the descriptions, too! I might have to order a couple soon. I need to get myself an Etsy store, too.

Thank you! The prices are mostly just the cost of materials; like I said, I want the hobby to be self-supporting. I'm not looking to turn a profit here. And I'd be totally psyched if people ordered stuff -- the idea that things I made were adorning people I liked would just be too cool. :-)

I found the Etsy setup to be something of a pain in the butt, though that's largely a matter of Paypal being annoying (and entirely necessary, which I hadn't realized when I started) and photography being utterly Not My Thing. Those issues aside, I'd say their system is pretty straightforward.

Thank you! Re pricing, I thought about that a fair bit, but I'm really just trying to make this hobby support itself; I don't expect to turn a profit. I'd be just as happy if there were no cash involved, but if people took away finished pieces and handed me bags of new beads in exchange.

I'm also happy to do custom work, just so you know. So if you like the style of one but the beads from another, or that sort of thing, just let me know.
