Hey, Chicagoans: Am I right in thinking that there's an area (or possibly more than one) near O'Hare that's mostly big industrial headquarters-type buildings? Where exactly is that? Does that neighborhood have a name

OK. It will help you to know that O'Hare is in Chicago by dint of a skinny little tendril of Chicago going out along the Kennedy Expressway to O'Hare and ensnaring it. Taxes, yo. If you don't mind your fictional building being not in Chicago, but rather in one of the burbs (again, but on the flip side, taxes, yo), then there are several burbs just inside the line running from O'Hare to Evanston that have that kinda stuff: Elk Grove Village is on the opposite side of O'Hare from Evanston but has a ton. Inside the line, though, pick from Rosemont, Park Ridge, or Niles (Niles is more run down, has lost more industry, though there's still some.) Skokie also has a LOT of pharm industry there with precisely the kind of scenario you describe.
