Just finished my intro to religion paper. I totally went off on atheists, it was great. About the pledge debate and all. For the record- I have no problem with atheists at all. But I do have a problem with the militant types who get upset when people offend them and their "religion". Atheists pay attention- You have a LACK OR RELIGION, NOT A

You cant have a religion if you believe in nothing. Religion is a belief in something sacred to you and practices built around that. Atheists do not believe in god or anything else. You can have morals and other things without having religion, but no god/anything sacred = no religion.

Technically i suppose buddhists etc can be considered atheists. Atheism is a broad category and the people that are buddhist or agnostic or whatever have their own religion. One of the major differences is those religions believe in an immortal soul. Just because you dont believe in a deity per say does not mean you dont have religion, i agree. But atheists, that are only atheists and not anything else, do not believe in anything. They have a lack of belief. Atheism can be defined as a category that can include some religions, but not as a religion itself.
