It is 14 yards, and the pleats are done in such a way that the pattern of the tartan (ancient Cleric) is not disturbed. I paid a lot of money for my kilt, and it was worth it. It is a hand made garment that will outlast me, and I'll be able to leave to my nephew, who has an unholy fascination with all things Scottish. If he takes care of it, he'll be able to leave it to his son, should he have one.
