A family member of mine who was planning to leave the Philippines permanently told me that my optimism about the country was misplaced and that he was getting out while he could

home is where the heart is, as the cliche really goes, but they do forget to mention how easy it is to disregard the value in the familiar. despite all the "crap" going on in the country, I too remain optimistic. it's a beautiful place filled with great people (at least those outside of government, hehe). we have amazing food and great beaches and tv shows so stupid, they're funny for all the wrong reasons.
an American client of ours remarked this place is like a gay Mecca since it's so accepted. it doesn't mean we're perfect in that regard, but we're a lot more accepting and tolerant than people think.
We might be the lucky ones who don't have to immediately deal with the problems everyone commonly complains about (people who live say, in Tondo might not share our sentiments), but for people who've got the places and friends to enjoy, what's wrong with appreciating?

when i was in the US, i had the worst Regla Separation Anxiety. i realized that you guys are SERIOUSLY the best friends i ever made, not to undermine my high school barkada and village friends, but i have never been so honest and open and accepting to a group of people.
CHEESE FACTOR SET TO 9, but I honestly think: you guys taught me how to be a good friend : )

Our friends are the reason this place is home. ♥ It's possible that maybe if we all left for someplace else, that place would be just as great, but I do love Manila.
I hear you man. I used to be pretty vigilant about friends and family deciding to leave, but these days i'm pretty resigned to the fact that people can, do and will. The best i can do is... inggitin ko sila na walang awesome doon at dito meron.
My issue was how they can look down on me for still staying. I mean, I really do have to apologize for seeing something in our own country that they can't, right?
