There may be a problem in translation. He seems to think 'I'm up for most things, but generally need to be told beforehand about it; other than that I'm fine' translates to a 'CONTRARY POSITION.'

Still, I gotta agree with what you said above, about how he'd probably be like 'you're falling for me, even though you shouldn't, right?' in the middle of it. Someone needs to cut him an ego check. Wait. He'd probably miss the sarcasm and think whoever does it is seriously flirting with him. Never mind.
