hello, sorry to write here, but i can't send you a message and don't want to do it on public, so. i just wanted to say that your fic 'weights and measures' is one of the best pieces i've ever read. not fandom, not breaking bad, but literature pieces. it's so intense, and god, isn't this second-person thing beautiful? it, you know, it has a double effect: we feel close to walter and/but distant at the same time. like YOU feel this way. actually in this case i have no idea what i like most: the story itself or the way it is told, sharp and clear, like a splinter, and it slices, you know, it really does. i want to share it so much it hurts, can i translate it into russian? i'll publish it in my diary (not lj), of course you'll be credited and have the link, but if for some reason i don't have your permission - just thank you, thank you anyways. i think i still have some of your wordings under my... i don't know, skin? you're so different from readishmael, who's perfect, and yet so terrific, 'you' i mean your writing of course, but 'the

Wow, I...hardly know what to say. Wow. Thank you? :) I'm unbelievably thrilled and touched that my piece has affected you that way.
It's funny, because I'd never been a great fan of second-person and certainly had never thought I would write it, but "Weights and Measures" just formed in my head that way...and now I'm sort of addicted to the POV. You're right, it's a perspective that allows the reader to simultaneously feel close to and distant from the narrator, and I think that grey area is perfect for a character like Walt.
Well, wow, of course I'd be completely flattered to have you translate the fic into Russian! Is the journal where you would be posting it very private? That is, when it's done, would I be able to link to the translation so that others can see it, too? At AO3 many stories have links to their translations in other languages, so it would be cool to be able to do that--but I also totally understand if yours is a more private space

gah, i'm so glad i've managed to touch smth a little, because there is always the thing with great texts, you feel and feel and feel and have to say someting but it ends up like talking to person you love, no words... or actually words, words, words, like hamlet would say, words and its useless attempt to express. gah-2

Hmm. Well, "weights and measures" literally refers to a set, uniform system of measurements for the duration, length, and weight of things. The system is usually codified by external source, like a government. So the title in part refers to Walt's need for control of everything, including Jesse's world. "Measures" is also a wordplay on the title of the episodes "Half Measures" and "Full Measure," and the idea of weight is played with a bit further in the last paragraph. I hope that helps a little!
The fic competition sounds great! I'm totally happy to have you use it for that. I basically just wanted to make sure it was okay for me to link to the translation once it's done, so that I can be like, "Look! Somebody translated my story into Russian!" *beam*
yep-yep-yep! *dances* i got it all myself :) and tried as much as i could to make clear that "do it", both of them, are actually walt's words about killing gale. and, yeah, about the episodes - in a 'spoilers' section i've mentioned the titles (the worldplay with 'half measures', 'full measure' and 'weights and measures' in russian, thereby, is preserved

hey! i'll be permitted to publish the translation after the 28th of october (at least i was told so), and actually i was thinking about starting an account at AO3 - it'll be easier for you to link and, well, look at it. i should've done it lo-ong time ago for my own texts, but, you know... here's an occasion! do you think you can help me with an invitation? i'd appreciate that sincerely. oh, and there was this member... of our bb-team - he started smoking again while reading your text :) or my translation if it matters. but we'll talk about it in detail later :)
