AFF 2007 Con Report

Apr 05, 2007 14:24

I'm going to make this entry public, just because... well... it's pretty much public information anyway, and I do want people who aren't on my friends list to be able to view the entry, too.

Anyway, without further ado, here's my ( uber-long AFF 2007 Con Report. )

I would absolutely happy to contribute art or panels if you guys needed it for next year. I am SO so happy and honored to have been invited as GoH, and I gotta say, I'm loyal now. XD You guys did such a good job, it was very successful in the eyes of all the people who attened, and tons of fun!

So all I can say is, count me in for next year!

yay we get to see you "vomit awesome onto paper" again *wink*. hehe seriously though, it was really great to have you, You've got some really great people skills, which is something not all artists have, you didn't seem afraid of your fan-boys which is good for artists, generally means they tend to do better, because when a fan feels appreciated, they spend more money. Heh, I really enjoyed the time I got to spend with you, and I hope I get to hang out with you more at next years con. Thanks again for being our GoH.

Well said. It would be my hope that our little convention could grow into a masterpiece like Conifur did for so many years, or even the stellar FC and AC. But for now, I'm satisfied that it happens at all, and that I get to be a part of it. It's a sort of electric experience to be able to think about a con and say to one's self "I helped make that happen" with all the things we have to take responsibility for in our adult lives, it's nice to add other peoples happiness to that list sometimes. Being suddenly welcomed onto the staff gave me a feeling similar to the one you get when you open that one Christmas Present that you've been hoping for all year long. I know it will be a lot of work and with no monetary compensation, but it's just one of those experiences that leave you coming away a richer and better person for having them. I know I'll trade free time and money for friendship and a sense of belonging any day *chuckles*.

P.S. You went to dinner with ME on Friday (as well as Arcanix and Vega-fox).

Sounds like it was a pretty good con. Glad you enjoyed yourself and that it went well. Congrats!

It's good that you're taking notes on how to improve. I would suggest getting the staff together and have them do a write up of what was required to handle the positions that they held. Job descriptions if you will, or as you mentioned about the dealer's den info, the "nuts and bolts". Have them make notes on what needs to be improved. No one is going to remember when the time comes next year if it's not written down.

Good idea! I know there were a million things I forgot but definitely want to plan aheaed for next year. It's a big change from only having a pocket program to worry about!

I bet it's a big change. Having published the much smaller and far less formal TSA Bash book, I can only imagine what you have to do to coordinate everything that goes into a con book. It doesn't seem to me it's putting the book together that's difficult, it's getting what you need from everyone so that you can put it together. Best of luck on the future editions.

Oh yeah, that guy! He's also perma-banned from TFnet, my IRC server. The dude is not right in the head, and I figured that out never having met you.

. . . actually, I didn't get the chance to meet you myself. *sigh* That's how cons go sometimes, ya?

i am not qualified to determine if he is right in the head or not, but i can say that my experience is that he may have some chance of benefiting from professional help.

no meet? was i actually that busy?

Y'know, the more I read about this thing, the more it makes me want to come out next year.

I mean, I know it's a terribly long way, but there is a rail line that takes two days and change if it's running as scheduled, although that puts it in Spokane somewhere around 2 A.M. Obviously there would be Lemur In Strange City Late At Night issues to overcome, but...
