Do not fear... I'm still alive (Barely)

Mar 29, 2008 15:21

Personal ShitI've only been back for a week after being away on holiday but I'm already yearning for that wonderful sense of peace. If I can survive the next two months of classes and my final exams I'll be done with this part of my education. And then I'll have my internship to look forward to (or not, depending on the point of view). In the ( Read more... )

It's good to be back. It's just a shame that I have so many things school related to do. But I can't seem to resist fandom and new fic. Oh well ;)

It seems you have set yourself quite a challenge with your translation. Good luck! And congrats too on reaching the end of your studies.

I absolutely love that more and more people are still discovering QAF. They bring renewed enthusiasm to the fandom, and it's wonderful to see.

A very big challenge indeed.

Exactly! They bring new perspectives and different views of the characters and the show. But I think there's always been a great sense of community. The fandom is growing, but we're all connected somehow, by the communities we watch or by mutual "friends". You don't see that in many fandoms.

*tackles*

Hey, you. And it's kindof cool that you're in the HP fandom too, only, uh, in the wrong pairing.

I'll do you a deal. Rec me your favourite Snarry fic, and I promise I'll read it, if you promise to read Underwater Light by mistful It's H/D but, honestly, plot over romance. And I'd read Maya if she wrote, like, Harry/Hermione (erk! Run!) - in fact, she wrote Draco/Hermione. Draco/Hermione! And I still read it! And I still loved it! Enough to give me the vapours, that was.

Shake on it? *spits palm*

Ah, we share another fandom ;) And yes, we have a deal! But asking me to choose my favorite Snarry is like asking Brian what he loves most about Justin. And vice-versa. Depending on my mood, I prefer this or that fic at a specific point in time. Having said that, I'll give you a few of choices, so that you can decide which one best suits your tastes. I tried to stay away from all the clichés in the fandom, selecting unique stories.

The Sensible Garden by RaeWhit (139487 words; Post HBP)
What if Harry had not been given the entire prophecy by Albus Dumbledore? Years later, forever changed by that second part of the prophecy, Severus and Harry are pulled together again, this time by a common love of flowers and gardens.

I know it's quite big, but it's delightful. It has some angst (and I did shed some tears), but it is very satisfying: the pace is wonderful, it has a lovely child (who you can't help but adore) and many, many different flowers. This would be my first choice, but I realise the size may be quite daunting.

Help Wanted... )

I'm catching up today! I saw your request for the beta on the translation and would have volunteered had I not been in the middle of my own deadline. Maybe next time? I'd love to see a finished copy. When do you get your grade?

As you know, Snarry is my OTP as well. There are so many fics that stand out for me. One of these days we'll have to compare notes on our favorites.

Thank you for the offer ;) This time of the year is very very busy, isn't it? *sigh* I think our last version of the translation was quite good, and I can send it to you if you're interested in seeing what Vergílio Ferreira's writing is all about. He has a very unique style (especially in terms of syntax and word combination) and even native speakers are sometimes left wondering about what he really meant to say.

We'll probably get our grade (and feedback from the teacher) next week or so. In the meantime, we're already thinking about our next translation. The teacher is amazing and lets us choose our own projects. We're thinking about translating an excerpt from O Mistério da Estrada de Sintra (The Mystery of Sintra's Road), a movie based on a book which was co-authored by Eça de Queiroz and Ramalho Ortigão. I think it's going to be fun, despite the difficulty of translating another one of Portugal's best writers.

Did you get your grade? I'm going to pass on the translation, I am so busy right now, as evidenced by this late reply, but good luck with O Misterio da Estrada de Sintra. :)

Yes, I did get the grade. 18 out of 20, which was pretty awesome! I ended up translating another movie, though. That one hasn't come out in dvd yet. I understand about being busy. This time of the year seems crazy to everyone.
