I don’t know what kind of system of government an internet-based society would have, but it wouldn’t be anything approaching a democracy. I kind of look at the internet these days as a post-nuclear wasteland akin to Fallout or Mad Max, basically where you’re free to do what ( Read more... )

I think Frameshift is dying because 1. some key faces are busy (Scott Bakker is offline for his own reasons, Scott Lynch is too, and Bob Urell... Matt Stover is just busy, and to be honest I think he's offline too, as he hasn't replied to an email I sent him a few weeks back, which is unusual. Kage Baker went offline some time ago, and Gabe Mesa decided it wasn't for him, as did Gary Wassner! God knows what happened to Cora... I think she disliked my views on Battlestar Galactica and/or eating babies? Nomnomnom...) and 2. a large percentage of us know each other in the flesh and far prefer drinking and debating in a bar somewhere to pontificating on the internet which is both public and easily misinterpreted. That's my opinion, anyway. I don't mean to be snobby about it ('cos, God, I hope we meet in a bar at a con sometimes soon, and I get on as well with you as I do the others) but that's just the way it is for me. I do chat daily with Ryan and Ilya, though. You should get them on MSN or something.

Yeah, it makes sense to me why Frameshift is dying. I wish I'd actually gotten involved in Dead Cities instead of just lurking for something like three years.

I don't know if Stover's off-line, he just made a post on his blog today, though admittedly he hasn't been keeping much of a presence online anywhere lately.

I'd love to meet up with some of you, but honestly I've never given it much thought. I thought most of the Frameshift people were separated by many hundreds/thousands of miles (don't you live in London or something?).

I've got AIM, but no MSN, though it might be worthwhile to get it if some of you are on there.

Just so you know, good sir, I view your posts as highly intelligent breaths of fresh air.

I agree with Chris; pop onto MSN.

I will say I appreciated your attempts to keep Frameshift going, with the writing posts et al. As Chris said, a lot of the old people have gone, and not enough new ones have come around.
