This year I only read 40 books. That's 12 less than last year. I'm not too disappointed as that wasn't one of my goals for this year. That breakdown will come in another post...

Last year madmadharri asked me to review each book which I elected not to do, I did however institute a ranking system which I will use again this year.

***** - If man and possessions were allowed to wed, I still wouldn't, but man, I LOVE this book!
**** - This is GREAT!
*** - Decent book
** - Um, why did I read this again?
* - Hurk!
When the "!" appears before the title it indicates that this is the first time I've read it.

So without further ado, here is the list of:

Books Read 2007

  • ! Lucky Man **** - I heart Michael J.

  • ! Wizard's Hall ***

  • ! Travelers Tales Japan ****

  • Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom ****

  • ! jPod * - This book was so bad that it has retroactively colored Microserfs, a book I used to love. Perhaps I'll try rereading it this year to see if I can stomach it.

  • ! My Life as a Furry Red Monster ***

  • ! There's Nothing In This Book That I Mean To Say ***

  • ! The Imagineering Workout *** - I was hoping for a little more from this book, it was still good, just not quite what I wanted.

  • ! Uglies ****

  • Archer's Goon **** - This was one of my favorite books growing up, I haven't read it since I was 14 or so... Still good!

  • ! In Cold Blood *** - I should have read this while we were in Kansas...

  • ! Pretties ****

  • ! Specials ****

  • Sorcerer's Stone ***** - You don't really need an amazon lik to these ones do you?

  • Chamber of Secrets *****

  • Prisoner of Azkaban *****

  • Goblet of Fire *****

  • Order Of The Phoenix *****

  • ! A Gift From Earth ***

  • Half-Blood Prince *****

  • ! Deathly Hallows***** - There are a few books in the series that on their own only deserve a 4 * rating, but the series overall bumps them up to the full 5.

  • Bridge to Terrabithia *****

  • ! The Man Who Ate Everything***** - I'm becoming a wannabe foodie... if we had more free flowing cash I would most likely become one.

  • ! Into the Wild **** - Written by a coworker of mine (and LJ USER="nomoreangels">'s sister

  • ! Hard Boiled Wonderland And The End Of The World ****

  • ! Eros At Nadir** - This book is about the life of a former high class spacestation brothel and the man who has been hired to "re-create the story of (it), as a hit holographic musical." How can you go wrong??!!?
Apparently by making the book just an extended conversation between the author of the musical and the station's computer... UGH! Please, please, please someone explain to me why this is available for the fsking kindle!!!

  • The Last Starfighter **** - as good as the movie.

  • ! Harrington on Hold'em **** - helped my game a bunch.

  • Another Fine Myth *** _ I read many of the "Myth" books in jr. high through early high school, and while they are a little dated, the 2 I reread this year were still pretty decent.

  • Below The Root **** - I loved this game when I had it for my Commodore 64!

  • Myth Conceptions***

  • ! The Looking Glass Wars *** - This book was very cinematic, and therefore would probably make a decent movie, but the spaces between the action sequences were a little thin.

  • Beggars in Spain ***** - I really love this book.

  • ! And All Between *** - the sequel to Below The Root, not quite as good.

  • ! Retro Gaming Hacks *** - definitely gave me some ideas!

  • ! Redwall **** - This was a vastly popular series in the late 80s / early 90s, I'm pretty sure my copy dates from then, I just never got around to reading it.

  • ! The Lady Slings the Booze *** - Another book about a science fictiony brothel, not sure how I got on that theme this year

  • Nightwork ****

  • ! Julie and Julia **** - A book about a foodie who loves Buffy, sign me up!

  • A Christmas Carol ***** - The only Dickens that I have read (and reread and reread and...) and enjoyed.

So there you have it... not a bad list.
