I got most of my really capslocked rage out at the anonmeme last night, so maybe I can be a bit more coherent now.
Things I liked:
-German speaking Daleks. That was lovely.
-Martha's German.
-Martha's 'STFU, Doctor, I'm doing what needs to be done' bit over the Osterhagen key.
-Mickey and Jackie! I always liked them well enough without being especially obsessed, but I swear they were the best thing about it all.
-Jack's concern over Martha and their exit together.
-Jack and Mickey's interactions.
-Jack and Sarah Jane's interactions.
Things I wanted and didn't get:
-Conversation, explanation, and emotional resolution between Rose and Jack. Ever since I heard the spoilers about Rose coming back, that was all I wanted out of it, and I'm really disappointed that we got nothing. I had mad crazy love for Nine/Rose/Jack, but every subsequent interaction between Jack and either of the other two has just been pissing all over the OT3, and I hate that.
-At least a hug, or better yet a snog, between Jack & Sarah Jane and Jack & Donna.
Things I hated like burning:
-Pretty much everything they did to Rose. I liked her lots in S1, lost a lot of love in S2, and while Doomsday was sad, I was quite fine with her being gone. In my head, she was working for Torchwood and being all kick-ass and world-saving in the alt!verse. Turn Left gave me a lot of hope that that was more or less the case. And then they tell us that she spent the entire time trying to get back to the Doctor and nearly destroyed the universes to do it. Bah.
-Pretty much everything to do with Brown!Ten. Granted, the blow-everyone-up plans that Martha and Jack & Sarah Jane had weren't optimal, but they were still better than Brown!Ten's complete lack of any plan, and I really hated it when he was freaking out at them. And I hated him for freaking out when Blue!Ten got rid of the Daleks. The friggin' DALEKS. He's got some kind of weird bipolar thing going on, where killing baddies is fine when it's his idea, but lonely god forbid someone else should step up when he's too big of a pussy to make it happen.
-Him dumping Blue and Rose off in the alt!verse. In my personal canon, what Blue actually whispered was something to the tune of "Give us a snog so he'll sod off; I've got a plan, and we'll have brilliant adventures in time and space and save this world, and his emo whining will only cramp our style." And she got the Ten I liked better of the two, frankly. Nevertheless, it was stupid and contrived and horrible and I really hated the implications for the relationship between Ten and Rose all along.
-DONNA. JEEBUS ON A POGO STICK, DONNA. Sorry, I'm too upset about that to leave off the capslock. I love Donna. I love how wonderful she was all on her own, and how much she grew, and how just generally brilliant she was in every way. And then they took everything away from her, without even giving her a choice. Killing her off would have been kinder and more narratively satisfying; giving her the choice to lose it and live, or go out in a blaze with her memory and dignity intact would have been much more respectful, regardless of what she picked. Within the text, I hate Ten for doing it to her without giving her a choice. Her begging and crying right before he did it was absolutely heartbreaking. And I don't believe for a minute that he couldn't have put her into some kind of stasis or something until he could work out a better solution. Externally, I fucking well hate RTD for writing it. There are so many better ways they could have written Tate out, and I hate Donna's ending with a fiery burning passion.
Sigh. Alright. I'm done.
