Sort of a continuation from the last post...

I had to share this comment by moerlin on neverwiser's post last night:

"I admit I hadn't read DLS before (because of the whole Reid being dead thing), but wanted to see what all the commotion was about. So I gave it a try and I honestly do feel that it is a Luke/Reid story at its core. Maybe I just fail ( Read more... )

I would join. LuRe fic is my crack.

I have had issues in other fandoms with being 'singled out' for things (not getting into details as this was years ago) and it hurt so much I actually quit writing for a long time.

When I did start writing again, I went back to fandoms where I would be virtually anonymous, because I couldn't get that involved again.

And then LuRe happened, damn those pretty boys, and I was sucked back into fangirling, lol.

I think this is a good idea.

Funnily enough I wonder why you need to get the permission.
I wonder if Noah_Who ever asked for it (but my problems with that comm is another bag of bees)

I think my comm proposal and Noah_Who are very different; Noah Who was a specific challenge and not just LuRe, but anti-Noah. They weren't the same kind of community.
The community I'm proposing is very similar to LuRe_ATWT, only it is for a specific genre and allows stories they do not.

I don't feel I need PERMISSION by any means (truthfully, I'll probably make it and see if it sinks or swims regardless), but at the same time I want to at least be able to say I told them in advance in a polite way, because I don't have patience for drama.

But thank you =] I'm glad you like the idea.

I really like that idea! I think there would be a lot of drama and pain for Luke trying to move on from Reid.

I hated the way they dealt with Reid's death on the show. UGH. I would like to see that explored more in fan fic.

I don't see it as competitive with LuRe at all, rather an offshoot of it.

Please let me know if you set it up.

Thanks!

I haven't commented on any of this issue because I just wanted to stay on neutral ground (yes, I'm like that), but I think this is a great idea. You should do it--think of it as a Luke-centric community. I shipped Remus/Sirius hardcore in that HP community but I remember writers creating separate comms. for each character if they wanted to pair them up with other people. It could work like this and I don't think Nuke stuff would be posted here as as separate community exists for them ( ... )

*draws hearts on this comment*
i am also a Luke girl first and foremost. (actor wise, ess is my man, but charrie wise? reid is a VERY close second!)

and i believe you are right - so many people are in such denial that canon even happened that it is almost taboo to discuss it! i want to discuss it, explore it via fanfiction, etc. but i can't do that with so many people pressuring me to be quiet. i think this community could be a great place to open up discussion and allow stories that do dive into the less-popular canon ending.

you are also right about why it is so hard to see luke with someone else - had reid lived at the end of the show, such stories wouldn't even exist i think, but he did die, and therefore in the world of canon, he is gone, luke is still here, and in real life he would move on. unfortunately because of the denial over the ending, the very concept of luke 'moving on' is ridiculous because they don't believe there is anything to move on from. did that make sense? i think i just made myself dizzy ( ... )

I think this is why it's harder for some to accept Luke with anyone other than Reid, JMO.

I definitely agree that there is a bizarre anti-Luke faction in fandom that I will never understand. (It's like the Veronica/Logan shippers who hated Veronica. Uh...this isn't the ship you're looking for!) But I don't think that's why so many people don't want to read about Luke with someone else. It's because we're diehard shippers -- and that's what we look for in fic. I'm Luke/Reid HEA gal. That's what I write, and that's what I read. That's what interests me. I'm sure there is some fantastic canon-compliant fic out there -- but it's just not the flavour of ice cream I choose to eat, if you will. I'm a shipper to the end, and I know a lot of others are, too. :)

And that's completely fine, of course! I'll admit I also have a hard time with either of our LuRe boys with anyone else in fics (I remember getting so pissed off at one writer whose very popular series just ended because both were with other people at some point and ugh, I hated it, though I still loved the entire fic itself because LuRe was endgame) but these post-Reid fics, to me, anyway, are different because it's understood that LuRe can never reunite because Reid is in fact dead. But I can also understand why these wouldn't be appropriate for the LuRe community--we want our boys together AND happy. So that's why I think this idea for a new community focusing on Luke is great and should be done for those who do want to face a post-Reid universe.

the sole purpose of this comm would be for LuRe stories post-canon.

Go for it! I think that's a terrific idea, Stephanie.

On lure_atwt, fix-it fics basically seem alright if they do not include Luke moving on with someone else.

But a fix-it fic, by definition, is fixing canon -- and is therefore a Luke/Reid fic and should absolutely be welcome at lure_atwt. In fix-its, Reid comes back from the dead in some way, shape or form. If Reid's dead and not coming back, it's not a fix-it fic. I think that's an important distinction, since you're talking about a comm specifically for post-canon stories -- stories where Reid is dead and not revived, correct? IMO, fix-its are generally in the category of traditional shipper fics. But a story like DLS is not, and those are the stories you'd be focusing on. (Unless I'm mistaken in your intent for the new comm?)

Re: permission -- Just had a good laugh at the thought, but for the record, no, we didn't ask anyone before starting noah_who. You don't have to talk to a soul before starting whatever LJ comm you want ( ... )

Looking back I see I misphrased, so thank you for clarifying on the fix-it fics! I meant post-canon, not fix-it, lol. So that was a mistake on my end! (I wasn't trying to say stories like DLS are fix-it, because obviously they are not ( ... )

a lot of people don't like those, either, because they don't want to accept canon, whether we fixed it or not. And technically, even such fix-it fics ARE post-canon, so I feel they belong

Fair point, and obviously that's totally your call as to which fics you'd welcome in the comm. It's not like a fix-it couldn't be posted at your comm and LuRe (and any number of other places).

More.. giving them a heads up and making sure they know that this comm would not be to spite them or to compete with them in any way

I really can't imagine they'd think that. As you said -- it's another outlet. More outlets = a good thing!

I think a few writers out there might turn their noses up at it at first, unfortunately, but this isn't for them, after all.

Yeah, speaking from experience (most recently re: noah_who), don't bother yourself with what anyone else thinks! I know I speak for my fellow NW mods when I say we couldn't possibly care less that there are people who think NW is so MEAN AND AWFUL, OMG. (It's a source of great amusement, actually!) There's ( ... )

Exactly. I'm not trying to make a place just for the misfits that don't work on LuRe.

Now I just need a name for this comm... lol!
