I agree that you can't change the hand you're dealt, but I think your attitude about your hand makes all the difference.My youngest broyher was married for 14 years to a woman he was totally in love with, when it became clear that she was having a very public affair with a prominent business man in their small town. Instead of confronting her with righteous indignation and pain, he confronted her like she was the woman he loved. He explained that he knew what was going on and asked her to stop seeing the guy and for them to get counseling together. She said no. He moved out, started divorce proceedings, and made clear to her that his desire was to reconcile, but that she'd need to stop seeing the other guy and consent to couples' counseling. Throughout, he was regretful but not unkind. I visited him during this time and we went and ran her acreage and cared for her animals (horses, dogs, a goat, etc.) when she had to be away. He was more than generous with the terms of the divorce, making sure she got the house and the acreage and ( ... )
