[Sam looks a bit frazzled right now. He's trying to stay on top of everything that's going on but, well...there's a lot going on. Still, he takes a moment to toss up this Public Service Announcement for anyone that's not on the ball yet.]

Find a way to fight them, drive them back out of the City. That's really all we can do until the barrier is restored.

[Perhaps it's a strange thing to do, going all the way to the library in the midst of such chaos on the streets, but the truth is that Rosella is more here by chance than anything else. What started out as a quick dash to the Barn to ensure the safety of her horse quickly became a more involved adventure when a flock of harpies began to descend on the horizon; with her return path momentarily cut off, she'd opted to make a beeline for the city proper instead, hoping that the buildings would provide her some security from the possibility of aerial attack ( ... )

[It's more out of reflex than fear, but the sound of Rosella's voice surprises him and he pulls his pistol out from where it's tucked in the back of his pants. The adrenaline wipes away the traces of his ghost pains, and suddenly Sam can focus enough to realize that hey, he's pointing a gun at an innocent girl. He lowers it with a heavy exhale.]

Jeez. I'm so sorry. That--. You caught me off guard.

[Moving slowly, just in case he startled her, he tucks the gun into his jacket. He's been so paranoid and on edge, but the added stress of dealing with random pain and trying to figure out why any of this is happening has him all over the place. To put it simply, Sam's a mess.]

I'm looking for information on everything that's happening lately, mainly the harpies now, but the books are playing their usual games. And the ones that aren't seem to be burnt out, literally.

[Her response isn't nearly as fast as Sam's, largely because of all the reactions she might've been expecting, a drawn pistol certainly wasn't one of them, but as the muzzle comes up her hand goes immediately to her throat--or, more accurately, the strange pendant dangling from it. It's a potentially fatal response, as reflexive responses to staring down a gun go, but if anything it only underscores Rosella's relative unfamiliarity with such weapons; someone more accustomed to them might've ducked back behind the shelf or hit the floor, rather than betting her safety on the chance that her fingers are faster than a bullet.

She takes an involuntary step back even as he lowers the gun, still clutching her pendant as she watches him through startled eyes. Likewise, it seems to take a minute before his apology sinks in, and another before she can find words herself.]

I...I work here. I was just...

[Okay, so they're not great words. But it's a start.]

[Oh boy. If ever Sam felt guilty about anything, it'd definitely be now. He rubs a hand over his mouth and shakes his head.]

I'm..really sorry. Here, just--.

[He stops himself and takes off his jacket - slowly, all slowly - to set it on the floor and push it a few feet behind him with his foot. He'll keep his hands up, almost in surrender but mostly to show that he's not going to harm her. He recognizes her voice very vaguely from a conversation they had a while back, so once the guns out of reach, he tries again.]

It's, um. Rosella, right? I'm Sam. Winchester. We never actually met in person.

[Hanna, looking rather beaten up, covered in scratches, and just grouchy, comes into the library.]

...Have you met the harpies yet? Lovely bunch of girls they are.

[His voice is laced with sarcasm.]

[Sam turns to him wearily, but laughs just a little bit when he notices his state.]

Must've had some party last night, huh?

Ha ha, yeah. Tons of fun.

[He laughs weakly and winces a bit.]

I can't believe I'm saying this, but we gotta get the barrier back up. At least then, more of these things can't get in...

[JFC, Hanna. Sam's gonna quarantine you one day so you can't get hurt anymore. :|]

We don't even know how the deities put it up though, and they're not going to help us with this.

These creatures have been here once before--or something very much like them.

Either way, there have been harpies in the City before.

Really? Do you, [Hesitating a bit, because it's been awhile since he's asked for information from others so forwardly.], do you remember what they were like? Behavior, abilities, anything like that.

They were ferocious, I remember that much: talons, teeth, and probably more than a small measure of cleverness, to say nothing of sheer numbers.

The problem of it is, the time they were here before that I recall, they were on our side--or, at least, we were all fighting against the same enemy. They weren't attacking us as they seem to be now.

I can say that our shared enemy didn't stand much of a chance against them, whatever that might say for us.

[While Cain's recounting the information, Sam's writing it almost word for word. Talons, teeth, cleverness. So far, it's about the same amount of information he has from home, which is good. Hopefully.

It's his last comment that gets him to stop writing and respond.]

Can they be killed? At all?

[Considering it.]

Enough to keep me alive in a fight, but not enough to get rid of them?

I was sort of hoping for the 411 on killing them.

[There's a sigh]

I don't know. I don't know if these things even exist back home, let alone if the lore on them is the same here. I have no idea what we're up against.
