Attn: Residents of Aternaville

I'm trying to map out the strange occurrences that happen around town. If you or someone you know appeared in Aternaville without intending to, please let me know the location. This is not just for those who have arrived in the past 48 hours, but for everyone who did not intentionally come to Aternaville. An accurate geographic profile might help ( Read more... )

Dr. Reid, this is amazing!

I've been working on sensors to plant around the park, but if I can manage to get into the castle and put them there, I'll do that too.

I've already gotten soil samples from the ravine, actually. I've run them through every test and scan I have available and the most I've come up with is that the ground is saturated with tryalic radiation--which is the result of temporal distortion. The carbon decay rate of organic material is all over the place, which makes it impossible to say how old the ravine really is.

Anyway, I have another theory. All the known research regarding dimensional and temporal distortion says that an area as large as Aternaville, stuck in it's own pocket dimension shouldn't be able to sustain itself. What if, rather than being the direct cause of the anomalies, the artifacts in the ravine act as stabilizers? It would explain why there's a steady power surge every time something weird happens. The anomalies are the pocket dimension's attempt to collapse in on itself, but the artifacts ( ... )

The geographical analysis won't explain the why, but it be useful in predicting where and who might be affected next. I'm fairly certain, using the information we already have, that people living on Butcher and Baker streets are more likely to be caught up in these happenings.

And your theory about the artifacts seems to fit with the analysis. If they were causing the occurrences, the Ravine would probably be in the epicenter of events. I admit everything I know about multiple dimensions is theoretical, but I'm interested in learning more. You don't, by any chance, have any books from your time period you could lend me?

Yeah, it fits the analysis, but it also opens up and whole new set of problems. Books...aren't that common in my era, actually. The most books I've seen are antique and given as gifts honestly. I can give you some of what I have stored in the library chips of my tricorder, if that will help.

That would help too. I just need to learn the physics that haven't been discovered yet. Have I told you I'm living a CalTech graduate's dream right about now?

Also, when you first arrived in town, where did you show up? It would help me with my profile.

Reid, thanks for letting me know. Jack and I are fine, although Jack is a little frustrated that I took him out of school, just to be safe.

Forgive me, but this seems like a very disorganized study you people are running. This will be the third time I've answered this same question. You may want to reexamine the allocation of duties among your team members. Either that or find out whether several of you are running redundant studies simultaneously.

With that said: my name is Marcus Hamilton, and yesterday I woke up in the Thatcher Apartments, Building B, Apartment 301B. Hopefully you'll find that helpful; I'd like to return home as soon as possible. Thank you.

Well, my inquiry is larger than the general "What just happened?" as I am trying to fit it in with a larger series of unusual activity (people randomly appearing on the street, turning into younger versions of themselves, that kind of thing) and predict where things might happen next. Lulu's discussion is more along the lines of figuring out who was affected this time, and how people are reacting.

From what I understand of how these "events" work, you will either be home within a week or you're stuck here. I wish you well.

Okay, um...the people who aren't themselves will get back to this when they are, I guess?

But what if someone intentionally tried to come here but managed to get here from a different time. My housemate who isn't herself did that.

...I admit never thought of that possibility. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that, either. I'll have to talk to her when she's back to being, well, her.

Yeah, I'll point her in your direction once she remembers herself.

Um. Not that any of this applies to me, since I came here of my own accord, but... what about the people who were dead before they came here?

Again. Doesn't apply to me. But I know people.

They still appeared somewhere in town, right? Those are the locations I need for my analysis.

...oh. So the 'how' isn't as important as the 'where'?

Is it bad that I'm relieved to hear you say that?

The "how" is important, but I'm trying to map all of the strange occurrences to see if I can find a pattern of the locations. If I get any clear results from that, it would be a good place to look for clues about the "how" of all of this.

And it's not bad at all. I understand that some people went through some trauma before getting here, and I don't want to subject people to unpleasant memories if I can help it. If they can forget the bad things that happen to them, all the power too them.
