why are there no significant black video game characters?

I was thinking about the characters of brawl and realized that there aren't any black people. This is due to the fact that there aren't really any mainstream video game characters that are black. I wonder why that is..... also what opinions are out there on it.

characters, brawl

Dudley (Street Fighter,) CJ (GTA,) Barret (Final Fantasy VII,) Jax (Mortal Kombat)

Now why there aren't any in Brawl is because there simply isn't any protagonist in a Nintendo game that's Black.

i agree. it's not really blatant racism or anything but it does still exist.

It's because a majority of these games (especially Nintendo stuff) is made in Japan where there's like ZERO black people and there is a history of stereotyping and racism.

Quite simply, racism- internalized racism and lingering racism. Much how movie studios shy away from casting people of color as their leads in major films (The Last Airbender, anyone?), video game companies know that their main markets are Japan and the US and thus tend to go for Asian or white protagonists.

As much as I love Ganondorf, he's a villain, although Nabooru is a heroic woman of color. But yeah, Nintendo is awfully pale.
