Another Brawl update, with some potentially not-so-good news.

More recently confirmed returning characters include: Zelda, Donkey Kong, Bowser, Yoshi.

Announced today, newcomer: Ike from Fire Emblem.

I'd like to think that Marth is irreplaceable. I mean, who else rocks the tiara-look like that? He's like a fighter and a drag queen at the same time. That is awesome.

My friend and I were actually discussing the SSBB characters a few weeks ago, and she had a theory that Ike was going to be included to represent Fire Emblem like Marth and Roy did in SSBM since of PoR's release. ; 3; I hate hearing, "I told you so~"

I think Marth is still a suitable candidate though, since he was a decent stand alone character in Melee.
Not to mention how sexy he'd be in high definition... *melts*

Marth is a favorite among tournament players, particularly in my area. He has a high tier ranking. So far it seems like the developers are trying to give everyone what they want, and it could go two ways. Either they'll give us Marth because of his popularity, or they'll give us Ike and incorporate some of Marth's moves into his gameplay.

But still, I want Marth damnit.

that's what's been worrying me =_= just a quick peek at any larger smash forum and you'll find tons of examples of so-called Marth fans that like him for his moves/abilities. Not for the fact he's just a swell girly dude. In other words it seems to me that, to the majority of fans (western ones at least!) anyone could replace Marth as long as it's some bloke with OHH COOL SWORD MOVES. With Ike i expect the majority of smash-geeks will be just as content.

Oh, hell. I actually wrote Sakurai a long [loooong drawn-out] email about how Ike is only second-rate to Marth last year, because Ike's inclusion as a replacement already seemed mandatorily predictable as soon as back then. And now it finally seems that Sakurai's giving everyone what they want instead of just granting ME Marth. Ohh! Logic just can't be tolerated! I reserve my rights to be embittered about it ( ... )

I'm bitter too. Don't know if it's worth it to get my hopes up. I should have emailed Sakurai too. I was convinced they wouldn't listen to fans, but I guess I was wrong, since a lot of the things people have been talking about have come to pass.

When Ike was announced, one guy's reaction to my post about him went something along the lines of: "GAY! It's another gay character! What next? Are they gonna bring in Marth and Roy?"

I said: "I hope so. It'll be the greatest round of sissy fighting ever."

But no, Ike isn't all that "gay" looking. He's got nothing on Princess Martha, anyway. Maybe he'll be a good fighter, who knows. If he plays like Marth/Roy I would give him a shot. But Sakurai's team seems to be catering to everyone...except creepy pervs like us. Come on, man, we're a respectable demographic. Or, if not respectable, we've got money too, dammit.

Guess I'll be keeping my copy of Melee after all.

Oh man, I so totally agree with that, now if only everyone would =_= I've always felt that Ike lacked the bite Marth had, be it in garbs, style or plain girly prettiness. His voice probably isn't half as nice either.. Oh well I did my best harrassing Sakurai about it. Last year, in the midst of an exam period. I already realized it was prolly not going to help a damn but leastways it rids me of any regrets about the issue now.

yes yes we all have been hearing this and that about Ike will "REPLACE" Marth and Roy permanently but that's nonsense if Nintendo had made the desicion to bring them into fray in meeele what makes you think they're gonna take 'em out now. Damn straight Marth is a sweet princess but he's also an awesome fighter plus making such a big splash like that, I mean that's a big impact, Fan base wise on such an obscure character. We love him, we want him, we adore him, we drool over him, we dream about him
HE WILL BE IN BRAWL!!! so no I don't think they're gonna take out a great money maker like him. (mmmmm Marth in Wii graphics)
