Movie Recommendations?

Aug 02, 2009 14:31

So, I have a Netflix account now, and I have a pretty good-sized queue going, but I'm curious if there are things I have forgotten about, or simply missed, which are must-haves. Thus, I call on you, dear readers, for recommendations.

Is there a movie I simply must to add to my queue? Unless I've already seen it? Even if I've already seen it? Why, ( Read more... )

Yayy, Netflix. The last movie I got was Back to the Future (which I hadn't yet seen). =D I think the reason it is a must-watch if you haven't seen it is obvious. Good times! Netflix is great for catching up on all those movies that you're like, "Oh, I should see that..."

Yeah, and some TV shows I don't get because of no cable/other forms of reception enhancement, or didn't see back when I had no TV at all.

Any specific recommendations for stuff I may have missed between the no TV/no money for movie theatres times and now?

Heh, that's all right. When I asked it to detect my location the other day, it thought I was somewhere in South Dakota. (Seattle, WA would have been acceptable.)

Hrmmmm, what sort of movies do you like?

My suggestions, in no particular order:

Run, Lola, Run
The Seven Samurai
Stardust
The Princess Bride
The Three Musketeers (1973)
The Four Musketeers (1974)
Ultraviolet (1998)- a British Miniseries.... kind of vaguely X-files-ish
Yes Minister

I have only room for one or two more movies at this point, but I did add Run Lola Run. In fact, I was suprised, because I thought I'd already added it at some point. I believe I already have Yes, Minister in the queue, as well (BTW, what's the distinction between Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister? I found both in my random tangenting, and went ahead and added it). I think I'll add Ultraviolet, and perhaps Stardust for now, and keep the others in mind.

Basically the two follow on from one another....

Yes, Minister tells the story of Jim Hacker MP, from when he becomes a Government Minister in the Ministry of Administrative Affairs, until he becomes Prime Minister

Yes, Prime Minister is his subsequent adventures.

Ah hah. I figured it was something along those lines, but had never heard of the continuation series. Thank you for sharing your infinite Britcom knowledge. ;)

I like most genres. I probably lean most towards police procedurals/murder mysteries, thrillers, fantasy, sci-fi... Your typical geek fare. I also favor intelligent comedies, and most British comedy.

should i assume you've seen stuff like Firefly/Serenity?

I have, but don't remember Serenity at all. They're already in my queue, though. :)

Feel free to present other possibilities, though. I was in the hospital for about three months in the summer of 2003, so I missed a lot. Plus, I was still pretty out of it socially/recreationally for several years after. I'm only now beginning to recover, and I wouldn't say I have much of a life again, yet.
