Hi there,

I haven't used the poll because my first answer doesn't seem to fit - sorry about that.

It would be wonderful to have an art section, but I'm not sure if there would be the interest to have an art-only round. I'd like to see art in the next full round. Perhaps for this year with three categories - one for "classics" (the same date restriction as your classics fic round), one for pics posted after the classic era but before the publication of DH and one for pics posted after DH and up to the same date as you have for this year's fic.

Then if you ran another round of awards in the future, you could have one art category alongside all the fic categories.

I think all art should be included: Traditional, digital, craft, cosplay etc.

Ok -

when dealing with art, you have to know that art comes in spurts. Usually after a book for traditional artis, or around a movie/trailer for vidders.

I ask on fave of you, dont limit your art to 2D. There is a rich variety of SS/HG art. Tiny Texans makes SS/HG cakes, and I recall sculpture, pottery, jewelry, and even book binding as exchange gifts. Not to mention Severus and Hermione dolls people have made.

A lot of SS/HG vid falls into the catagory of music video, and is comprised of movie,tv,trailer footage from the films or films Alan Rickamn and Emma Watson are in. Good luck with that, there are thousands of those vids! Utube has silenced the audio on many of the SS/HG vids, so if you go for noms in this art area, ensure the audio is active for the art. There are also SS/HG vids that are slide shows of fan art (e.g. pics on deviant art by multiple artists such as odella, camillo, vizen...)put to music- that's a difficult call---I name those types of vids "tribute vids".

Good luck

nods, it would be better if the art was put into several divisions- drawings/paintings; photmanips, icons, wallpaper vids; cos-play; and craft art. I do craft art--bookbinding, but so far each of my books has also included hand created illustrations by other artists.
Not sure how this will fit into the mix- but what about art that is created for a specific fic, should that be another category- or would they fall into Droxy's 'tribute vids' category?

tribute vids are different from your book project. Your book project was the active effort of several folks to create on object. A tribute vid is a fan collecting art, and it may be w/o permission, to create a music video or SS/HG fan art tribute video. There is a very big difference between the two. Collectively made quilts fall into team effort art. Best way I can explain it is this. A tribute vid is like posting fic recs. Round robin fic is collective art.

Thanks for explaining this- due to being restricted to dial-up I hardly ever look at vids, and my ventures at Deviant-art are limited. It takes ages for a page to load.

I disagree with Camillo about adding it to the full round. Art gets the short shrift as it is, and, considering all the different media, it would be nice to see a contest devoted solely to art so as to celebrate all that the ship has brought to us without being drowned out by the fic (she says as an artist).

I said no to having the time frame open only because OMG! there are a lot of pics out there! However, would it be possible to have sections per each category? (Oh, and I strongly recommend separating the art into categories based on media rather than by mood alone. That makes it fairer all around.) Like, say, "Digital manips from July 2004 - July 2005"? Could have just two or three time frames, like 1998-2001, 2002-2005, 2006-2009 or some such.

*shrug* Just some thoughts.

Lariope and I have been talking about compiling a list of art. Of course, we meant all ships (or whatever our personal preferences are). So I would say that in researching the art we've got links to alone... The number is enormous ( ... )

Could we keelhaul the plagiarizers too?
