Donald just accepted a job offer to be a homeroom teacher at an international school in Shenyang, China. Shenyang is a big city of 7 million in northern China, disturbingly close to North Korea and about halfway between Beijing and Vladivostok. I looked it up on Wikipedia. Wikipedia says it's a "sub-provincial city." Of seven million people. No big deal. Oh, China.

But holy shit, this sounds exciting. =:) Since you want to learn some Chinese before you leave, maybe you can do a conversation-partner thing with a Chinese person who's trying to learn English. And I'm sure you'll learn an incredible amount after you move too. I've heard that (unlike the Russians) Chinese people are incredibly friendly to white people who try to speak Chinese - the attitude is kind of "you will never get our language right, but that's okay because it's hard, and it's SO COOL that you're trying."

Wikipedia also has a list of famous restaurants in Shenyang. Love it.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea. I think they have conversation partner match-ups through our university.

I hear the food is amazing in China. Nothing like American Chinese food, which is good, because I'm not fond of American Chinese food. "Chicken with sugar glaze" they mightaswell call it.
