Hi LJ ...

It's not that I've been away from LJ entirely ... I've been reading all (or at least most) of the entries on my ever expanding friends list...And each time I think to myself that I should make an effort of trying to post something of my own...

Wow! Synchronicity!

I pulled the Traffic CD out yesterday morning and have been playing in the car, mostly listening to just this track. I love the English folk song/rock fusion stuff of the 60s and early 70s (Fairport Convention, John Renbourne, Steeleye Span, et al) and this song is at the top of the list.

Funny you should mention Fairport Convention ;-D

I was going back and forth between doing this one (Barleycorn) or Genesis Hall by Fairport Convention, albeit in a later Richard Thompson arrangement...

I enjoy Steeleye Span and John Renbourne as well, although my knowledge is somewhat limited to his Pentangle era...

Nice :) Steeleye Span also did a version on their album "Below The Salt" from 1972, which is the version that first brought it to my attention.

Quite right...

I first came to learn about John Barleycorn through Traffic's version first, and it's also that version I prefer - but Steeleye Span's rendition is not bad at all...
