90 seconds of Vegas Showgirls, Pat Morita, Scott Baio, The woman from all those Bounty paper towel commercials, and a dog named Blackjack.

This may sum up the seventies better than words ever could. (originally hepped to me by Jaime J. Weinman's excellent TV blog for Maclean's.)

Hello, Simpsons Spin-off Showcase?

That was truly amazing. The seventies was all about making as much crap as possible and bloating network TV with it.

I agree. I remember once finding on a videotape I had I had accidentally taped the last ten minutes of Maserati and the Brain by accident. It had Christopher Lee as a Nazi, cheesecake with big hair, a super-genius whiz kid, Mr. Belvedere using the barbecue, and ends on a surprise attack by ninjas. If it doesn't some up 80s television, I don't know what does.
