bathing suit scowl. (first world problems)

I met my initial task with concerned hesitation. The last bathing suit I'd purchased was pretty much perfect in every way- dark color, flattering & forgiving tankini cut, just enough decoration and interest in pattern - so I thought I knew what I wanted. But maybe this bathing suit was a fluke! Maybe I'll NEVER find another one I like... I hadn't looked or bought in like 5 years, and my suit is starting to get pretty ragged.
Bathing suits are not fun or easy to shop for if you have any body image confidence issues. So I tried to make it causal. I would try to sneak up on the bathing suits. When I was at a department store helping my mom shop, I peaked a few uncommitted glances at them from over the petite pants, or as we passed en route to the undies. Then I strolled through as my mom was trying things on. I never saw anything that was remotely inviting to put on. This went on from the winter through the whole summer and I didn't try on a single suit.
On a whim I found myself at the Lands' End website. I had looked before, but couldn't really talk myself into paying for anything on that site. LOW AND BEHOLD! SALE! I can pay $30 for a suit!
So I look them over, find one I like, and I buy it. I knew buying without wearing was a risk. I had mostly convinced myself that it wasn't going to fit and I'd just return it no harm done.

So it comes, and I'm wearing it. It's a bit awkward - like it *almost* fits and I kind of like it, but... eh, do I reeally want the trouble of returning it? The troubling part is that it doesn't fit in the chest area, which is I feel an area that should really fit when water is involved. It stings because I always want to think my boobs are smaller than they are. Then reality comes along and says "HA. The rest of your body and your boobs just aren't the same size"

I'm thinking about modifying it - I think I could just take in the band a bit. But is it worth the trouble? There's about an inch between me and the band that should be holding things in place. I can tie up the halter more to make things more secure, but after a few minutes, my neck starts to hurt from the weight!

Lands' End has sort of fooled me. They have a MILLION options on their suits, like long or plus or mastectomy or even D cup, which is cool! You can search for "style" such as "thigh coverage" and "minimize bust," But the style I wanted has regular and long options, which doesn't help me. The "style" I would want include bikinis (no) and a bunch of ugly monocolor one pieces, and one that I kind of like that's sold out in the colors/size combos I'm interested in.

HMM.
O! First world problems!
