I finally beat that monster of a game, Final Fantasy V. I didn't even do everything and it still took just over 40 hours of game time, not counting probably 5-8 hours of time lost forever when I DIED! That's pretty long for a 16-bit-era FF. FF IV was around 25 hours and FF VI was closer to 30.

Your first point really resonated with me. The story was pretty good but it was spread too thin amongst the long distances and dungeon crawling.
I thought that game was hard too. I used to grind in those games, and X-Death was still difficult, even after mastering every job class. Also, the enemies are really unforgiving, especially in the last dungeon. Yes, it calls for strategy but can be punishing when you're just looking for a save point.
I've been going back through DS games because of the realization that Pokémon has stolen my free time when there were much better games to play. Finally passed Kirby Canvas Curse. Playing Hotel Dusk: Room 215, going to play through the first Phoenix Write next. Maybe I'll play Final Fantasy III on the plane ride back North in November for Thanksgiving. Catch you then.
