Costume College 2011 recap.

Aug 04, 2011 13:24

I am back into the grind of life, after Costume College that is. CoCo was a blast as usual, with chatting and meeting with various folks I know, online and/or in real life. Well, now that I've seen them it is good having faces to names. I sadly missed a few folks, but with classes and parties going on, I had to choose which way to go, and sleep ( Read more... )

While CoCo is exhausting in its way, it is also a wonderful energy boost for the rest of my year.

I also realized I seriously need to break out of the 16th century costuming box I've been in the past several years.

And this as well. I am thinking Regency and 'teens wear with some '30s thrown in for spice. We'll see how far I get. ;)

I'm thinking 1870s (love the bustle), a civil war day dress (for those Kearney Park CW events), Edwardian, something steampunk (or just accessories for the outfits already mentioned), my stormwatch coat for fantasy/artwear, and maybe regency since it looks simple and so many folks around here does regency. Oh, and 1950s house dress for my "work" uniform here at home.

Sounds like a good combination of projects to me; and certainly enough to break you out of the 16th C mold! Lemme know when you get around to the Regency, I may be able to help hook you up with some resources (and may want to swap fittings with you... *grin*).

Yes, it is. Folks come from all over, like Alaska, Illinois, Maryland, even the UK! If you could get the chance to attend, you'd be in good company. :-)

Don't let that stop you. There are folks that are early beginners, to incredible professionals, and all are having a grand time learning, sharing, chatting, sharing, ooohing and aaaahing over each others costumes, or taking photos of all those costumes. One doesn't even have to wear a costume if you don't want to. Some of the costumes are done in paint, some are done with incredible hand stitches, some are done in glue (one costumer hates sewing but creates incredible outfits with a wide variety of materials, electronics, and glues). It really is inspiring, and you can learn a lot.

honey, except for the 1950s (I ♥ those suits!), women's clothes sucked royally after the 19-teens! I'm a fan of all of it! (I've even seen photos of stuff that I didn't care for that absolutely rocked -- and made me reconsider those periods! The photograph is ever so much nicer than a re-drawing!)

and I love that icon!
