Jim curls around him unconsciously in sleep; like an octopus with only four limbs, he attaches himself to Bones with his arms wrapped around his lover's waist and their legs tangled together. It's cute, according to Uhura who'd once found them in the same position in Medical Bay, and almost endearing.

Almost.

"I'm not leaving, Jim," he murmurs into the night, the dark of their quarters a cool blanket. He hates how quietly self-loathing Jim can be, how low his self-esteem is, if only due to the fact that it breaks his heart to see how desperate Jim is for approval and affection.

He brushes a hand through sleep-mussed, blond hair and kisses Jim's temple, saying again, "I'm not leaving. I'm right here."

Jim's grip only tightened.
