Delayed reaction to "I love you" Kirk/Bones

Bones and Jim are in a new relationship, and one morning when Kirk is on his way out the door, Bones says, "I love you" for the FIRST TIME.

Kirk doesn't process this until he's up on the bridge and then he's all "HOLY SHIT BONES SAID HE LOVES ME!" and can't stop grinning and of course he has to say it back to Bones, who finds the whole thing amusing.

Any cynic who thought James T. Kirk was anything less than a wholly devoted captain could suck it, McCoy thought. Anyone this bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at the thought of another boring day traveling through space couldn't be anything but. He burrowed his face a little harder into his pillow and bit back a remark about Kirk not being too used to having people spend the night. It was true, yes, but after only the second time McCoy had done it, it probably wasn't a safe observation to make to keep them on good terms. And right now, they were on the best of terms

Spock nodded his acknowledgment and Kirk tried to leave the bridge with some dignity. The spring in his step on and off the turbolift was incontestable, though. It wasn't as though McCoy's confession was entirely unexpected. They had been close for years and had decided, recently, that it could be worth their effort to try a romantic and sexual relationship. So far, the results had been spectacular, but this was new. A first admission of love, no matter how casually stated, deserved a lot more pomp than Kirk had given it

Aaaw, I really liked this. Especially how Bones is grouchy and obviously happy at the same time.
