SMCM Bike-Sharing Program

Dec 31, 2007 00:58

Hey Everyone.

I recently wrote an editorial about the potential bike-sharing program in the Point News. My article is against the implementation of the program. Please read the article for more details (in the most recent Point News, and I will link it at the bottom of this entry).

I emailed President O'Brien about the issue, and we are going to be ( Read more... )

I agree with you. At its longest point, our campus is LESS than one mile across. I'm so very very sick of people BITCHING about how long the walk is. I lived in Calvert last year, and despite that, or perhaps because of it, I've never felt that walking to any of the other buildings on campus was going to kill me. This included many late night walks to visit friends all the way out in WC. Honestly, those who are so lazy that they feel they need to drive to class aren't going to ride a bike anyway. If it's a time issue, I've never had a professor who didn't understand when it took me a little more than the allotted ten minutes to haul ass from Kent to Schaefer. The bike program's more trouble than it's worth. Also, remember, it's all coming out of our tuitions.

You are the president of the Cycling Club? Then I've seen you at Club Council meetings I suppose, I'm secretary of the Rock Climbing Club and go to all those fabulous meetings. Anyway! Maggie O'Brien is stressing this "bike culture" thing, when it is improbable for numerous reasons - not to mention the student apathy that the SGA is trying to deal with ( ... )

Unfortunately I don't have Facebook, so I can't check that out. But I have talked to Paul about it a lot. Bike rehabilitation is a huge hobby of his.

But shoot, a bike culture? What bike culture? I can't get people on the cycling club interested in cycling, let alone the general student body interested in bikes.

My roommate had a bicycle, but she would NEVER ride it anywhere on campus because it was too much effort for her to have to unlock and lock her bike up. It was easier for her to just walk.
That seems to be the attitude of most students.
