Character Information
Series: Enchanted
Character: Prince Edward of Andalasia!
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Definitely straight. He falls in love with Giselle when doing a romantic duet with her. Later, he also falls for Nancy, Robert's fiancee.
Appearance:**
Essentially a brunette, Prince Edward has charming blue eyes and broad shoulders that are emphasized by the sleeves of his costume. Yes, the princely one.
To elaborate...
Personality: Prince Edward is as enigmatic and gentlemanly as a prince can get. He sings duets (romantic duets, nonetheless), fights for his love with a sword and believes in true love's kiss. Wholeheartedly believing that his duty is to protect his damsel in distress, he will gladly put himself in mortal danger (even if mortal dangers, to him, are regular everyday buses) to save her. Besides being a complete romantic knight in purple armor, Edward is also somehow a little overprotective. He doesn't like it when others gets too close to Giselle, and would probably kick your ass the way he does to trolls if you mess with her.
Hailing from the 2D world of Andalasia, he is not exactly the brightest star in the sky, figuratively speaking. Prince Edward does not want the throne, and hardly has any idea of what his scheming, witch-like mother is up to. He has also mistakenly stabbed a bus and proclaims, "The steel beast is dead, peasants! I set you all free." This is especially true when he appears in the 'real world'. There, he becomes even more clueless and calls the TV his 'Magic Mirror'. All he wants is his love, singing and dancing and possibly his mirror.
If this Prince isn't dramatic enough, I don't know who is. Constantly breaking into song and brandishing his sword (unnecessarily, of course), he is always the center of attention and attracts incredulous stares from everyone around him. Edward overreacts to most things, including comments about the way he sleeps. If you said 'ugly' to his face, he would instantly go into emotional overload.
Of course, being the prince, he is obsessively narcissistic and doesn't realise that he thinks too highly of himself most of the time. Plaintively thinking that he is the most handsome and charming of them all (which he is, but still), he often makes embarrassing proclamations. "You fear you'd die without me here." He constantly ensures that he is looking his best and calls everyone around him 'peasants'. The thing he loves most in life (besides Giselle) is his looks - vain enough to check his reflection in his sword.
Above all, Prince Edward is earnest and true, despite his melodramatic and somewhat self-centred personality. He believes in the good side of people (especially himself) and most importantly, true everlasting love.
Abilities/Strengths:
Due to excessive training in the forest back in Andalasia, Prince Edward does have some better-than-average swordsmanship. He has slaughtered trolls for days on end (because his evil, wicked mother did not want him to be King) and thus has gained some fighting skills against large, bulky monsters. He probably did have selective magic training as well, as he comes from the fairytale land of Andalasia. But he is not seen using any spells.
Of course, ultimately, Prince Edward's forte is singing. He can come up with verses in mere minutes and break into song at random intervals, thus brightening most people's day. Despite his melodramatic demeanor, Edward can cope with losses well and generally take things in his stride. While not exactly happy-go-lucky, he does look on the brighter side of life.
Weaknesses:
Prince Edward is not very trained to deal with life-threatening situations. He is, after all, a prince, and has spent many of his youthful days exchanging fluffy love songs. At his worst, he is slightly clumsy (as seen from the scene when he tried to save Pip) and can mess up his attempts to do good.
He also tends to become a little too self-centred. Being the vain man he is, he sometimes neglects others around him due to obsession with himself. Edward's overprotectiveness can prove to be rather unnerving as well. One might not feel like they are given freedom when they are loved by him.
History:
Prince Edward comes from the picturesque, animated land of Andalasia. There, he is the only heir to the throne -- which his stepmother refuses to give up. That is why she is trying her very best to prevent him from finding his perfect bride, instead sending him to kill trolls in the forest.
The merry Prince will not be brought down so easily. He begins to sing beautiful songs as he slays the evil, beastly trolls, and one day, he hears the angelic voice of a maiden as he goes through this mundane routine.
Following the voice, Prince Edward discovers a beautiful young lady named Giselle, together with her magical, talking chipmunk Pip. Heroically, he saves her from the cruel grasp of a beast. They then begin to reply to each other's song, effectively forming a duet - these two are perfect for each other! Quickly falling head over heels for Giselle, Prince Edward demands an engagement and a wedding that is soon to follow. However, Queen Narissa will not give in.
On the day of their royal wedding, Giselle is heartlessly transported to a land with 'no happily ever afters'. Once Prince Edward finds out about this, he wastes no time chasing after her into the magical portal and finds himself climbing out of a manhole in the middle of New York City. He also stabs a bus and calls it a 'steel beast', drawing unneccessary attention to himself. He is accompanied by Pip (and Nathaniel - the Queen's right hand man). They end up putting over in a motel, where Edward deems the television set his 'Magic Mirror'. Meanwhile, Nathaniel's attempts to poison Giselle are spoilt by the chipmunk. The queen becomes impatient.
When Edward finally finds Giselle, she is already smitten with Robert, her real world Prince Charming. Their date has lost its appeal, and Giselle refuses to go back to Andalasia immediately - however, she agrees to go after the ball, and Prince Edward heartily gives his consent.
At the ball, Edward gives Nancy, Robert's fiancee, the honor of dancing with him (while Giselle and Robert dance). As he passes the couple, he begins to notice the faint sparks of emotion between Giselle and the unknown man (Robert) and becomes slightly suspicious. After the brief dance, Edward urges Giselle to return, but her expression gives away her true feelings.
Now, Queen Narissa makes her presence known and feeds Giselle a poisoned apple. Edward stops her attempt to bring her away and Nathaniel prevents her from enchanting the Prince. Robert remarks about true love's kiss, and frantically Edward performs it -- only to find that it doesn't work. Nancy then suggests that Robert give it a try. After she awakens, Giselle hurries after the Queen to save her true love.
Despite losing his to-be bride, Prince Edward takes it in his stride; instead, he has developed feelings for Nancy, and after the Queen is defeated, they return to Andalasia for their grand wedding, while Giselle stays in the real world to be wedded to Robert. They live happily ever after.
Extremely long and stupid, but information nonetheless >_>
