camping out in that area is wonderful, though you may want to double check the weather for the weekend that you want to go, as well as whether or not you can have a campfire when you go out there (it is still fire season).
also, bring warm clothes. it's chilly out there...and i do mean chilly. we're freezing our balls off out here, and we're not even by the coast...
also, keep in mind that campgrounds in big sur are reserved *months* in advance.. there are a few places that have first come first serve camping, but you typically need to show up before the weekend really starts in order to get one of those spaces.. most campgrounds have phone numbers, so i would call around before making the drive..
