Friend of mine was in Aussieland for a semester. She said that there's a lot less variety, in terms of brands, there. Just less stuff to pick from.

I love going grocery shopping while I'm traveling. I was sad that I didn't in Paris. We went to a drug store in Montreal, not a grocery store, but that was cool too. I *heart* grocery shopping in Italy.

From my observations, supermarkets are all the same. In my travels in the U.S. I've seen precious little difference between Kroger, Ralphs, Bloom (A&P), Grand Union, Bruno's, Safeway, Giant, Von's, Carrefours, and Harris Teeter. So much so that I don't bother telling amnormand at which store I'm going to do my shopping, I just say I'm going to GUM (a reference to the big central store in the Soviet Union).

Wegmans, Balducci's, Sutton Place, Whole Foods, and Giant Gourmet don't suck as bad as the rest, but they're pricey. Food Lion, Big Star, Weis, and Bi-Lo should be avoided at all costs.

DTC, Farmers markets, and co-ops tend to have more local food.

Moreover, in my experience, Florida tends to be a cesspit in every respect. I'd fast since I don't trust *anything* that comes out of there.

Yep, all US stores are the same. German ones have the same stuff, but fewer versions (only two brands of pasta versus ten).
