Lust Watching the spill of gold hair over the pillow and the steady rise and fall of a smooth chest could do nothing to dissuade his guilt no matter of the fact that it had been several months already since they had progressed to this part of the relationship.
Relationship. Was it really a relationship? Roy didn't want to see it as such. A relationship would mean that he was committed. A relationship would involve feelings he wasn’t ready to admit to.
It really wasn't a relationship yet. Not if he left during the night, or if Edward was gone on another journey before Roy came to. Not if he refused to acknowledge that what they had was nothing more than convenience for the both of them.
"He's nothing more than a stubborn brat," Roy had once said to Maes over a drink when his best friend had questioned him in regard to Edward. "I'm just making sure the brothers don't run into trouble they can't handle, that's all."
Maes had laughed and mocked-saluted him with a shot glass, slapping him on the back affectionately as Roy grumbled and hunched over his drink in the dark bar. "Ah, but I'd say the two of you are more alike than you might think! You both have the same focus and drive! The determination! The angst! And really, the both of you just have major issues to work out..."
It wasn't as if he got to see Edward very much lately, anyway. And Roy certainly wasn't the type to keep up with a long distance relationship. They both had their separate paths to take, crossing with each other only when it was convenient for both.
Watching that golden spill of hair for a few moments more, Roy finally compelled himself to leave the bed and the person on the bed as well. He couldn’t stay for long. He had work to do, after all, and Ed was going to leave and go home once he awoke, anyway. The both of them knew better than to dwell on intimacies with each other.
Well… perhaps Ed had not known in the beginning, but after several months, it wasn’t hard for him to pick the subtlety up from Roy.
Not that Roy meant to be so distant to Edward, he thought as he buttoned up his dress shirt. It’s just that he wasn’t willing to give up his job and his goals for the boy, and he was very firm about that in his mind.
It was just…
Roy hesitated as he stepped out of the room, trying to banish the image of Ed’s face, relaxed in sleep and gold lashes brushing softly against lightly tanned cheeks.
It was just… he couldn’t give Edward up, either.
Shaking those thoughts away, Roy closed the door quietly and slipped away back into the spotlight of his duties and responsibilities.
He really was such a glutton for punishment.
