Ha, what?

Tomorrow I'm going to go play softball for the first time ever. Apparently it's like rounders (which I didn't actually like) but I dunno. It's meant to be a really good social sport and I want to get out of my flat (and away from my brother who is doing my head in ( Read more... )

Roller-derby sounds like fun. It's not for me, though. XD Have you seen Whip It?

I haven't but will probably watch it this week sometime to get me in the mood, haha. I don't know, it appeals to me.. I clearly have aggressions I need to get out :P I wonder what it will be like skating in quads - I only ice skate occasionally and before that I was all about inline skates. Well, it should be fun.

Softball! ♥ I played for ten years and I really, really miss it. On the other hand, I don't know anything about roller derby. I mean, what is it?

I'm looking forward to giving softball a try. And meeting people - I've been in my city 2 and a half years and I don't have much of a social life and ugh, it's lame.

I don't know loads about roller derby but it's a female, full contact sport, played on a track whilst wearing quad skates. There's two teams and the idea is for the jammer to overtake the other teams blockers who are obviously trying to stop her. It just seems so fun and fast paced and is it wrong that the full contact thing is a big sell? It's why I don't like women's hockey; what's the point without the checking?

Don't feel bad. I've been in my town for 25 years and I don't have much of a social life...though it's mostly by choice as I'm not a people person.

Amen to that! :) And it actually sounds like a lot of fun, tbh.

I'm not really a people person - I don't really like groups of people. Well, mostly I don't mind listening to other people's conversations but I think that makes me look anti-social. I prefer talking to just one or two people.

Yeah, I'm super excited for giving roller derby a go! I know that to begin with it'll just be training, and I have no idea what that entails (other than skating) but I'm pumped for it!

I reaaaally want to do roller derby -- one of my friends does it and the london one has this boot camp type thing and I want to do it so bad but I figure I will actually need to be able to skate before attempting anything more complicated and that is going to take a while to achieve haha

huzzah for positive life changes :D

You should ask them. The one that I'm going to welcomes complete beginners (even if you can't stand up on skates). It's been years since I've used quad skates, I'm hoping it's not too different to inlines/ice skates. We shall see.

I know, right? Most of my flist goes to the gym but I don't think I have the motivation for that so I figure team sports is a good way to meet people/be more active.

this one is open to anyone but i asked my friend and she said that it's not really worth the money if you can't skate to begin with so i'm going to work on that.

it definitely is! i am too scared of the meeting people thing which is why the gym works out well for me because i can just slip in and out without having to actually interact with people.

I guess that makes sense. I think that the team I'm checking out is a new one so it probably makes sense to train a bunch of newbies up. I don't know, I guess I'll just wait and see!

Ah, I'm pretty nervous meeting people in a group but so long as I get a chance to just talk to one or two people at a time it isn't so bad.
