As I was just telling
moosical, despite all the sun where we were in the west of the city yesterday afternoon, it was raining like a good 'un here in Vila Prudente where the PIL live. The rain was so heavy, albeit very brief, that it flooded the "avenue" (motorway) a couple of blocks away and submerged a couple of cars. There were two helicopters overhead filming the action when we came back home, not via the avenue! I was going to go down and film it, but amazingly the water subsided in 5-10 minutes.
I was going to go shopping with Lu to Ibirapuera, but instead Lu's mum is going to go. This is good for two reasons: 1. Lu gets to spend some time with her mum. 2. I don't have to go around endless shops that are identical to the shops in all the other shopping centres we've been to. Caveat: I would like another pair of Adidas trainers, as I couldn't find my size at Morumbi, and *still* haven't been to a
Banca de Camisetas. I ended up going. My purchase? A Brazil Starbucks mug, LOL.
I saw a gorgeous pair of Adidas trainers, but apparently they're end of line and they didn't have my size. Anyone recognise them, and seen them around? I stupidly forgot to ask the model.
And a very deep and thoughtful

1. Someone's built an orbiting habitat that revolves around Earth at twice the distance of the moon. You're offered free passage, and food, drink and shelter, as long as you help finish setting up the habitat - build things, grow food, be part of the experiment to see if the humans can all cooperate enough to be self-sustaining. Do you go? Why or why not? If you go, what is your role?
I'd go as long as I could have two robots called Huey and Duey, and plenty of cantaloupe melons.
2. Cryogenics is not an issue any more. You're offered free passage on a vessel to Alpha Centauri, but you're not crew, and will be frozen until you get there. You decide to go. Why? What do you look forward to doing when you get there?
I'd go on the assumption there's something to see in terms of other civilisations, and if not a return ticket.
3. How do you feel about robots?
More to the point, how do they feel about me?
4. You and your favorite person (or people) are offered the opportunity to travel into the future without leaving the planet: be frozen for an arbitrary length of time. Do you take it? If yes, how long will you be away? If you decide not to do it but a favorite person wants to, does that influence your decision?
I think someone was discussing this a few weeks back. I'd definitely take a ride into the future, probably 100 years to sense some real difference but still have some hope of coping.
5. What one scientific development described in science fiction do you wish were part of our life? Why?
I like the idea of a society that doesn't involve financial gain, a la Star Trek - although they were light on detail.
