and NEVER EVER watch the movie called "A Serbian Film". I've heard that it was a boundary pushing film, and as a horror fan, I thought I would like it. There was nothing scary about it. It was just sick and depraved. I felt dirty and depressed after watching it ( Read more... )

If you liked Paranormal Activity, try Paranormal Entity. Its basically a rip off of the other, but still pretty good. I take it that "A Serbian Film" is along the lines of the Saw series. Not much of a story, all about the blood and gore.

I heard Paranormal Entity was good, thanks! A Serbian Film makes Saw look like a children's movie. Not particularly bloody/gorey, I can handle that, but it was the rape I couldn't handle...of a minutes old newborn :S It wasn't fully shown on screen, but it was vividly implied.

Definitely the kind of movie I prefer to skip then.

I've seen Insidious and I found it 'jumpy' scary (does that make sense?). Also there was a special effects scene which I found sort of funny. Sorry if that sounds cryptic but it's been a few months since I watched it, I thought it was worth watching though.

That definitely makes sense! I like jumpy, unexpected scary moments! The synopsis sounded good, so I wanted to give it a watch :)

Ohhhhh my god. You are a braver person than I am. That movie is like "120 Days of Sodom", except a million times more fucked up. I haven't seen it, but my boyfriend has, and he teases me by telling me that he's going to make me watch it. HELL NAW! I hope you're feeling better atfer watching it; it sounds very difficult to get through.

What kind of horror movies do you like? Have you ever seen "Jacob's Ladder"? That's a damn good movie. I like goofy horror movies more than gory ones, so I love things like "Tales from the Hood" and "Friday the 13th Part VIII", haha!

I've heard so many things about 120 Days of Sodom!! I tried reading the novel a few years back, but found it extremely slow moving and hard to follow. I've seen lots of gross/nasty things on the internet (I was tricked into watching Chechclear :S). A Serbian Film just has no redeeming qualities about it.

I love campy horror movies of the 70's/80's/90's. I own all the Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Omen series. I'll give anything a chance. Ghosts/Demons/Paranormal terrify me LOL I haven't seen Jacob's Ladder, or Tales from the Hood, so I will definitely be adding them to the list, thanks! Goofy/Comedy horror are great, I agree! Have you seen Hatchet? It fits in that category, I think!

Ack, I really really thought Insidious was awful. I felt like it had such potential to be hella scary but ended up being...not. at all. :/

Ugh, bummer! I hate it when movies start out amazing and you think it's gonna be great, but by the end it's just a letdown :(

See I watched the Paranormal Activities and found them suuuuuper boring. And I definitely preferred the alternate ending to PA1 to two, gave it SOME kind of menace vs just 'boring tragedy.'

Like, I was SO underwhelmed by PA1 that after watching the movie in the dark v. late at night, I actually casually put my hand under the bed to grab my laptop to proclaim how incredibly terrible it was. xD

After reading your comments about some of the 'plot' of A Serbian Film' I definitely have to say I'll be giving that a miss too. There's rape scenes, and then there's... That. UGH! O_O;; That's not boundary pushing that's boundary obliterating.

I can't say I've got any good recs for you though atm. The amount of horror we've seen recently has been WOEFUL and we need to fix that! xD We did see Sharktopus recently though... EPICALLY TERRIBLE! xD

I wasn't sure what the "alternate" ending to PA1 was...the version I watched was online, so no extras or alt ending. In the version I saw she apparently kills Micah in another room, sits in a trance for an entire day, and is then shot by the police. Didn't like that ending much :S The ending to PA2 was terrible. As far I was concerned Katie was dead? I liked the movies, just not the endings :S

There haven't been many good horror movies out in awhile :( This disappoints me!

We looked up the alternate ending online after watching the movie. Its WAY better than the cinema release ending - which is the one you saw. ^^

I'm not sure if I want to spoil it for you! ^_^;; xD But she's def not shot by the police, if that helps ;)

I CONCUR! I saw most of Triangle and it wasn't bad, we're going to watch it properly tonight (I was watching it at a night-before-wedding drinking+steak+working out make up for the bridal party evening) but I enjoyed that it made its OWN sense.
