OK so they paid for lunch, but did they give you a check for 1 day for your car being in the shop for 2 weeks? Or was it only in the shop for 1 day, two weeks after the accident?

as a former claims adjuster, i can give you the other side of this story. everytime you pay to have someone's car fixed, the claimaint (you in this case) also has a claim for the "loss of use" of their auto. for most people, insurers just let you jump in a rent car. BUT, often, you can opt to be paid cash instead. this is usually a set amount per day that your car is in the shop.

if a person doesn't ask for a rental or cash, it's in the adjuster's interest to write a check and sent it to the claimant anyway, because the nominal amount lowers the average amount they spend per claim on loss of use. in other words, it makes the numbers look good.
