So I texted the girl sleeping in my bed at 9:30 AM. Hoping that I'm not in trouble for waking her up and hoping that her phone is charged so that I can send the address to the tech guy and maybe be able to set up tivo tonight. Cross fingers!

So wait, how do you have high-speed internet? Through a wireless provider or do you have your own router?

I have a wireless provider through my apartment complex and I gave him my MAC address to the wireless adapter this morning and it should work. He added it to the system and I should be able to connect now. I'll go home and try it after work. How are you? Lets make Star Trek plans.

Hi, I run tivolovers and TiVoLovers.com Are you using the TiVo WiFi adapter?

Unfortunately you won't be able to do the setup until it can call home - either via the network or a phone line.

I am using a wireless adapter. The problem seems to be that I don't have a router in my apartment because I am using a a log-in system with my apartment complex. I have been talking to TIVO and my ISP for the past couple of days trying to put in the IP address myself. It keeps saying that the DHCP server can not be located. My ISP(tech guy Bill) says that he can tell that something is happening on their end and that I was even given an IP address. I tried it and it didn't work. Do you have any idea what is causing this?

That is a common red herring error if you've mis-entered the WEP, or WPA, key. If the WEP key is wrong the TiVo can see the network and tries to contact the DHCP server, but since the encryption key is wrong it fails and you get that error. But it is confusing because it doesn't say something like 'Bad WEP key'.

Make sure you've selected the right network and have entered the WEP key correctly - I strongly recommend entering the WEP key using the hex version and not trying to enter it as a pass-phrase. Not all systems generate the hex from the pass-phrase the same way, so that doesn't always work.
