Whodat?

1. Name: Julia.

2. Age: Twenty.

3. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose? I'm currently searching for a place that's better than where I live, New York City. This city is my city, and I get homesick for it if I'm away from it for too long. I recently went on vacation to Amsterdam, hoping that being in another metropolis would compare... and it didn't. I was wandering around wondering why that place is supposedly so great. Legal weed, shmeegal weed. I'm quite the stereotypical New Yorker ("I'm walkin' here, jackass!"), and the only other place I could see myself comfortably living is London, which seems to have a similar jaded, proud, and ironically insular attitude about it.

4. What would your Room of Requirement look like? The whole concept of a Room of Requirement weirds me out, so the first thing I thought to answer was, "Well, it'd have to have an exit, to start off." In terms of decoration: red walls and deep, expensive, plush carpeting. I'm trying to think what I require, and the best of it isn't necessarily tangible. I would like to have a cure for AIDS in there, so when I leave the room I could save lives and win the Nobel Prize. I could use one of those, but I could also use a new clique of loyal pals (my list of friends is going through a changing of the guard as we speak....) And there should also be some mind-altering substances there too, because I'm a *cough* curious Ravenclaw.

5. Who is your least favorite Harry Potter character? I get a lot of flack for this, but it's always gonna be Sirius Black. I think he's immature and foolish, which are both traits in humans that I think deserve a nice trip through the Veil. How convenient for me, right? Honestly, why do people like him so much? I don't find him funny; he was a bully and a brat and got what was coming to him. People like him really get my knickers in a knot. You know, the ones who take things for granted -- he could afford to shrug off his family name and inheritance like it wasn't anything, but not everyone can do that, not everyone is born with the money and good looks and entitlement to risk his own safety and the safety of his friends and future. I don't care how long he suffered in Azkaban, he was the one who got himself killed in the end because he thought with his big ol' Gryffindor heart more than his head.

6. Is the glass half empty or half full? What a question! And what a cheap answer: The glass is half empty, because it just is. *shrug*

7. Give us a quotation (Can be from a famous person, a song, or even a poem-whatever you want) you feel represents your life or personality. "Do or do not, there is no try." Yoda said that. It's true; there is no try. Sometimes you just have to make up your mind whether you're going to do something or not, and you shouldn't pussy out by saying you'll "give it a shot." Either you will or you won't, and there's no cosmic destiny that's going to decide, only you. It's tough figuring out this fact from scratch, but everyone's gotta do it at some point.

8. In your life, who comes first: family or friends? Family, since my mother has only let me down once where friends have disappointed me many times. That whole "blood is thicker than water" deal really does work out to be true in real life, I've discovered. Maybe later on my position will change, but friends I've had haven't earned the right to come before my family.

9. What is your favorite childhood memory? When I was younger, my mom and my dad and I rented a house in Cape Cod each summer. Some of my best experiences are of learning and eating marsh pickles and laughing in Cape Cod. We stopped going there because my parents got divorced, but the memories represent a time when I was probably the most happy I'll ever be in my life.

10. What would you say is your biggest flaw? I have the problem of sabotaging myself. I can be very self-destructive physically and mentally, and sometimes that keeps me from going where I need to go.

11. If you had been at Hogwarts during Harry’s fifth year, do you think that you would have joined the D.A.? Eh, I'm not the type to join a vigilante crew. I'm more the passive resistance type, and not the type to go head-first into makeshift hero organizations. I like sticking it to the man n' all, but I do my best work alone. I applaud the D.A.'s passion, and I'm certainly not a supporter of Voldemort or any bullshit like that, but I'll just take care of myself. The benefits I would miss out on by not joining the D.A. are a) a good learning opportunity, and b) the security of a large group, where in a trial you can always finger someone else to be the fall guy. There are strategic issues you have to think about when you become proficient at stickin' it to the man....

12. Describe how you react to difficult or stressful situations. I'm a big procrastinator; it's my primary method of self-destruction. If met with a situation that I find difficult or stressful, I often find a way escape temporarily. That is, I take something that makes me fall asleep, or I go spend exorbitant amounts of money at Sephora, or I watch 6 hours of Law & Order... all so I don't have to think about whatever's stressing me out. This type of plan has gotten me into heaps of trouble.

13. Which do you value more: compassion or justice? Justice, hands down. Compassion doesn't get stuff done, does it? Are empires built on compassion? Maybe one, once, but then it got pwned by the Huns or something. Really, I'm just not a very compassionate person. I'm nice, but I can be very utilitarian and, after years of neglect, my capacity for mushiness has kind of gotten phased out. I'm dealing with it in therapy, don't worry. ;)

14. Would you say that you’re a child at heart, or that you have an old soul? My soul is so old that it orders diabetes supplies from Liberty Medical when I'm not looking. I've been told that I'm rather wise beyond my years, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy a well-placed fart joke or shouting "PENIS!" as the house lights dim at the premiere of GoF. Just because I have an old soul doesn't mean my sense of humor isn't healthy. Heh.

15. Which Hogwarts House do you think that the Sorting Hat would place you in? Ah, Ravenclaw. I've got plenty of Slytherin, and perhaps a smattering of Gryffindor, but I spend so much time in my head and value education and learning so much that ultimately the powers of my flexy morals, spotted past, acerbic personality, and oft-recklessly foul mouth are edged into the periphery of Sorting-dom.

16. If you have a picture of yourself and feel comfortable posting it, please do so! Pictures are fun!

Be someone, Julia!

Yeah, I have cut my hair since then. These pictures are all ancient.
