1. Name: Christine
2. Age: 25
3. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose? This is a difficult question because I love to travel. I love the hustle and bustle of a city (I currently live in Chicago), but there are also times when I'd like a more laid-back lifestyle. I'd probably enjoy living in Rome. I adore the scenery and it appears to have the best of both worlds--the city lifestyle, coupled with a more easy-going attitude towards life. Many of my Italian friends seem to take the day at a slower pace than I do; they get up and going by about 10AM and they stay up late into the night. I don't know quite how to describe it, but what I perceive to be how they live their lives is what I would want out of the place that I choose to call home.
4. What would your Room of Requirement look like? It'd probably be a cross between a library AND a movie theatre. I would want a library space where I could curl up with a good novel, as well as a movie theatre space to sit back and watch my favorite flicks. The seats would be comfortable and the decor would be warm and rich tones.
5. Who is your least favorite Harry Potter character? I would have to say Cornelius Fudge. He is a bumbling yet vicious individual. He doesn't consider how his decisions will actually affect his constituents, but instead he is only concerned with making himself look good. He is slimy and corrupt and I have absolutely no respect for him whatsoever.
6. Is the glass half empty or half full? Ironically, though I often have plans B-Z in case plan A fails (worst case scenario), I still think that I have a rather optimistic outlook on life in general. I think that though people are capable of doing horrendous, unspeakable things to each other, human beings are also capable of doing good. Nine days out of ten I'm pretty damned glad to wake up in the morning to another new day.
7. Give us a quotation (Can be from a famous person, a song, or even a poem-whatever you want) you feel represents your life or personality.
"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans."--John Lennon, Beautiful Boy.
As of late, I often find myself thinking about this particular quotation because just when I think I've got my life figured out and I know what I am going to do, things change, people change, circumstances change and I have to re-evaluate everything. I think that change holds out the possibility of some of the most beautiful and frightening moments in one's life. This quotation is also a great reminder that no matter how well we plan, life happens with or without our approval; it's a reminder to me not to get so wrapped up in all my "plans" and to just try to live in the present (which is very hard for me, because I'm always trying to plan the next move, figure out how to achieve the next goal, etc.).
8. In your life, who comes first: family or friends? Family because the friends that truly matter to me I would consider my family anyway. I'm constantly "adopting" siblings and other "relatives" from the various communities of which I am a member: school, church, civic. I've always had people that I could depend on no matter what happened in my life and who love me for who I am--those are the people, whether they share the same genetic composition as you or not, who are "family" to me.
9. What is your favorite childhood memory? I am a karate movie junkie. As my mum tells the story, I was about four and I was playing in the backyard. She didn't hear me for a little while and became curious as to what I'd gotten myself into. When she looked outside, she saw me frantically jumping up and down and becoming highly irrate. She came out and asked me what was wrong and I bitterly replied that I was mad because I couldn't jump into the tree in a simple bound like the kung-fu masters in the movies did. She explained to me that it was physically impossible for me to do that, but I was still determined to give it a go...eventually, I came inside the house and she made me my favorite snack as some kind of consolation.
10. What would you say is your biggest flaw? I'm quite the little over-achieving perfectionist. If it's not done right, why bother doing it? I am uber self-critical and never feel as if what I do is enough. There's always room for improvement, but I often cross the line and become self-depreciating.
11. If you had been at Hogwarts during Harry’s fifth year, do you think that you would have joined the D.A.? Definitely. I'm Dumbledore's girl, through and through! ;D I would also want to learn various spells to protect my family and friends. Also, I think that if I was at Hogwarts I'd love Defense against the Dark Arts and I would look for any opportunity to hone my skills.
12. Describe how you react to difficult or stressful situations. I am usually unnervingly calm in difficult or stressful situations--particularly in life or death situations. I try to remain calm and level-headed; I can think well on my feet and am pretty good at problem-solving. In my academic pursuits (not quite life and death, eh?), I've discovered that I actually work well under pressure and I can function amidst chaos.
13. Which do you value more: compassion or justice? I'm all about the component of justice where people actually accept culpability for their actions, but I think that, ultimately, I have to say that compassion is more valuable. If I did something and totally screwed up (and, if I admitted to totally screwing up), I'd want whoever was wronged by me or whoever "judged" me to look at me with compassion and mercy.
14. Would you say that you’re a child at heart, or that you have an old soul? Ironically, when I was young I was told that I had a "forty year old soul" and now that I'm an adult many folks who know me would say that I have the "child at heart" thing going on. Though I don't want to ever be so serious as to lose my inner child, I think that I have always been an old soul. Even when I was younger, I was always the most responsible and mature one in my grade (according to my teachers). Even as a child, I always sort of hoped for the best, but secretly knew that the world doesn't always work the way we want it to and that life is not fair.
15. Which Hogwarts House do you think that the Sorting Hat would place you in? I think that I would be sorted into Gryffindor because I have that famous Gryffindor passion and "nerve." I've never been afraid to stand up for what I think is right and to say exactly what's on my mind.
