Musical Conversations continue... 8-17-10

Where was I? I was lost in a field of notes, flowing back and forth like wheat... still trying to catch up to myself and my life, I'm proceeding forward and not really looking back too much anymore, except to say that tonight's show was an exercise in distraction and yet it was somehow plainly clear of its direction.

Rush
Spirit of Radio
Well, yeah.. still starting with it.

Rush
La Villa Strangiato (An Exercise in Self-Indulgence)
Two-fer Tuesday? For at least a while anyway

Doors
The Crystal Ship
Five to One

Kansas
The Wall
Play The Game Tonight

Seals & Crofts
Diamond Girl
Summer Breeze

Fleetwood Mac
Say You Love Me
Second Hand News

That's ten songs. I like to stop there and say hello and good evening. It's a good stopping point, by now I've got a direction and have picked more songs to play. What's tonight's direction? At this point I have no idea. Absolutely none. I mean, I thought that since it's the 41st anniversary of Woodstock that I would play something to commemorate it. Did I? Nope. Move along, there's nothing here... yeah.
So Sunday I had gone to see Heart in concert with he who is known as child #2, major_shock and the wonderful (and greatly missed) myskat. Wonderful show, great people, I thought I'd comment on it here by playing some Heart.

Heart
Dog & Butterfly
Yeah, they performed it.

Heart
Unchained Melody (live)
No, they didn't perform it that night - just the simple fact that they have done it is wonderful. This version should ship with a box of tissues. Seriously. Ann's voice is amazing.

Heart
Love Reign O'er Me (live)
This ended the show. The first scream of "LOVE" pushed me backward. Oh the power of...

Led Zeppelin
What is And What Should Never Be
Well, first, if you don't know why I'd play Zeppelin after Heart, you've just not listened to either band too much, have you? Also, this was the first song of the two encore songs. Yes, Heart performed "What Is And What Should Never Be."

Led Zeppelin
In The Light
Now, at the beginning of the show this song was playing as they took the stage. Then as they took over playing the song as the music faded, it then kicked into "Cook With Fire" - amazingly done.

Doobie Bros.
South City Midnight Lady
By request (thanks myskat

Bevan, Alex
The Grand River Lullaby
One of my all time favorite songs ever.

Even It Up
So, again some Heart? They played "Gimme Shelter" and interspersed it with "Even It Up" - I had to do a comparison/contrast.

Plant, Robert
In The Mood

Rusted Root
Food & Creative Love

Lifeson, Alex (Victor)
Strip And Go Naked

Renaissance
Things I Don't Understand

Grand Funk Railroad
I'm You're Captain

That's it.

It was good. The mellow section was needed. A little too melodramatic, but powerful. Next will be more diverse. And there was a new Iron Maiden album to play from that I didn't even touch.
