One of the things I heard most frequent from people on my mission as they tried to educate me about my religion (because, according to them I was mislead, under a spell, brainwashed, etc.) was that I belonged to a ... gasp! ... CULT

When we completed construction on our new stake center, I was over there doing something the first week and took the obligatory look at the new building. They nicely attached those plastic engraved placards on the doors of every room. Using appropriate abbreviations for the longer room names, of course... or maybe not.
Imagine walking in the building, right in front of the doors leading into the chapel and gym and reading, in large 48pt type: "Chapel" on one side and "Cult Hall" on the other.
Needless to say, the signs were replaced with "Cultural Hall" a few days later.
But seriously, good article here. All too often we hear the term "cult" slung around when it basically means "any church other than the one I believe in".
By most definitions commonly used by people throwing rocks, the first century Christian church fits the term perfectly.
