My husband pointed out that some people might not like an entry that was essentially about cannibalism, which I hadn't considered might be an issue. I've really had a different view on it ever since I read about how it actually occurs in human societies. I wouldn't eat any people myself (!), but the philosophy of people in the story is similar in kind to that of most "cannibals", and they see our ways as horrible, as we essentially banish our dead in their view. There is (at least) one group that eats the ash from cremation in a kind of porridge which is where the idea for the rituals of the people in the story come from.

constructive criticism welcome.

I'm not sure if you checked out the work room or not, but I was discussing cannibalism as a good way to go with this entry if someone could pull it off without just being creepy (we have creepy fic authors galore). One person suggested a more societal view about the memories and others agreed it would come out as a good entry.

I couldn't make it work personally. But you did. You did it very well I might add. Very nice entry.

I'm also fascinated by societies and things like this btw. I recently visit an exhibit on the Spirits of the South Pacific... They had a bit on cannibalism and even had a fork used only on humans (because you couldn't use your hands like other meats). It's fascinating stuff.

I agree. She managed to take this and do, more or less, what I had suggested about addressing the idea of eating someone and eating their memories, as well.

great minds think alike! I had been very impressed with my own originality at first, but in hindsight, with so many people thinking on this topic, I am not surprised other people came up with the same idea! ;)

I can understand the reasoning behind it but I don't think I could do it.

yeah, our cultural bias is probably far too strongly ingrained to actually do it ourselves (even assuming we ended up in the appropriate situation) - I don't think I am a good enough writer yet to do this idea justice - but I hope I did a good enough job that people do see this point of view as something moving and lovely.

I find it fascinating that something which is so extremely taboo for most peoples is completely accepted in others. It's really amazing.

for a possibly off-putting topic, you wrote persuasively and came up with a lovely story.

This entry surprised me, it spoke about something very different from how many imagine cannibalism would be like. Kudos to you for giving it a go, this competition definitely prompts people to explore new things, and you've done it very well here.
